Funny this should come up...I was after bees in an oak limb last night. I bought a piece of mosquito netting from the fabric store (white was all they had). I stapled it around the brim of an old staw hat. I was wearing my homade bee keeper hat when my wife came home yesterday and she lost it. She said, "you look like you're getting married and you're the bride!" It hurt...a little. Of course I'd picked the hottest day this fall to jack with them and I couldn't keep the netting from touching my face...kinda defeats the purpose. My father in law swears these are African bees, and a neighbor across the mountain got attacked by killers a couple weeks ago. They killed his dog. I get out there and fashion a bee poison deployment device, having abandoned my bee keeper idea. Found a 9' piece of pvc and duct taped the cut off end of a 3 litre diet coke bottle to it. My bees are in a branch about 7' off the ground. I get my Sevin Dust and bee attack pole and hop in the ranger. I angle in out across the wheat field about 30 yards from the bees and tell the wife keep it running. "If I come sreamin' out of there I'll bail in the back and you punch it and head for the gate (figured we could outrun the ones that weren't stuck in me). I walk up under the tree and the bees are more agitated due to the warm weather than I've ever seen them. I sit and ponder and watch for about 10 minutes bee pole loaded and ready. The bees never settle so I abandoned the pursuit all together. I'm gonna hit'm tonight. To be continued...

When I was living in Dallas, looked out and saw my German Shephard in the ground cover snapping at the air and biting himself. I knew what it was immediately.
I was so mad I grabbed two cans of that Raid stuff that sprays about 15 feet and ran out and pulled the dumb dog away from the hole. I then proceeded to spray both cans at once into the hole and up in the air.
They were the ones that look like very small yellow jackets. Rambo would have been proud, there I was cussing and spraying and never got hit once.
All's well that ends well. The dog was OK but got a little smarter and I was lucky. There were hundreds of them and it really looked cool seeing them laying all around me dead on the ground, now I know how Godzilla must have felt. I would rent that on DVD from Netflix... X2

Update: poison pole a success. 8:30 p.m. Dumped about a pound of Sevin dust on them without incident. They never moved.

i am a fireman in el paso and we get called for this all the time. we use any type of foam. soapy water works real good too.anything that will stick to them and not let them fly. they will also suffocate. we have killed thousands of them this way and i dont know of anyone getting stung. wait till dark or early morning when they are not active though, you will have your hands full if you dont.

Man, I was picking up some old lumber and throwing it in my front-end loader bucket a few years ago. Bumble bees came flying up out of there and before I could get to my truck they popped me numerous times. My daughter pulled 19 stingers out of the back of my neck. i took two Benadryl tablets and never had any ill effects. It's a wonder it didn't kill me.
Best thing I have found for underground or even wasp nests is diesel. Throw some of that on a nest of wasps or yellow jackets and they fall to the ground.
