Bought a Chevy Malibu for wifey last year. Front tire went flat - had a cut in the sidewall. Go to the trunk and there is no spare tire???? Has anyone ever heard of this on a brand new vehicle? Its not a new thing. It is to me - never buy another Chevy My wife's Chevy spark came with a spare. Same with my wife's new Toyota.

Luckily it was discovered locally and not in the middle of nowhere on a long distance trip. Exactly - especially if wife and grandkids were traveling

BS move but yes dealers have been doing it for several years. Most any junkyard will have some donut spares you can buy fairly cheap. Anyone buying a new car should always ask for an extra (third) key fob and spare tire when closing the deal. That's insane. The dealers have ZERO to do with the manufacturer building a car with no spare. And with keys well over $200 each plus programming, make sure you know what kind of deal you're getting.
Pass the gravy.

On a similar note - I bought a new Dodge P/U in 91 and around 6-7 years later I had a flat. Dropped the spare for the first time that of course was covered in dirt/grime and wouldn't you know it...damn thing only had 5 lug holes whereas my truck had 6 lugs. Ended up going back to the dealership and had a heck of a battle until they finally gave me the right wheel. Bought a F150 that was suppose to come with a spare tire lock. A year later I went to drop the spare to check pressure and no lock. Went to the dealership and of course the first person to approach was a sales dude. I explained it to him. His reaction was "it has been a year and just now noticing". As I was explaining to him that I had not had a need to drop the spare the service manager heard the conversation. He said pull it around and we will put one on for you.

Now we have to make sure new vehicles come with a spare tire, jack, and lug wrench Not only that, but you need to ensure it's the correct lug wrench. Just had a recall performed on my 2023 Super Duty to replace mine with one that actually fit the lugs.

With the average cost of a new car being $48K I'm going to ask them to throw in a spare unless car is equipped with run flats. And the COST of a key fob to the dealer isn't near $200. Thats just what they hose you for programming it (which takes less than 5 mins).

Got a new Honda Pilot Trailsport last month and I knew it came with a full sized spare. 2 weeks after buying it I got a flat on the way to work and was surprised to see the spare had a matching wheel and tire, not just a cheap steel rim and misc tire.

I have a spare alright. On the back of my Tailgate. Jeep Wrangler. My problem is what to do if I get a flat. Suckers are hefty. Could probably pull it off and let it fall but the flat one damn sure isn't going back on the mount. Old and not very stout anymore. Never had a vehicle without a full size spare.

Yup, Toyota does this too, including the TPMS sensor. Learned that the hard way one winter when I had adequately aired up my tires on our 4Runner, but the TPMS light didn't go out. Aha! Threw some air in the spare and all was right with the world again. As Toyota's main competitor, not surprised Honda is doing this as well.

The TPMS comes on, and goes off, randomly. But by golly I'm sure I have 5 properly inflated tires on each vehicle now!

Wish I could do that on my truck, but the black steel non-TPMS wheel wouldn't work for that very well. And I'm not down for buying a new matching aluminum wheel with a TPMS sensor right now.

I look every time to see if the spare is a donut or full sized. My Chevrolet has 20” tires, the spare is a 18”. Seemed odd to be, but whatever, at least it has something full size.
