The HI governor has already said they plan to take some of the land. "Developers" are already swarming making offers.

This was NOT an accident. This was a holdout of mainly HI natives in that area of the city - who had resisted the "developers" and weren't selling.

Y’all are delusional if you honestly think the fire was intentional to grab land.

With that said, I 100% agree that cash hungry investors & developers are chomping at the bit to get a piece of that Maui tourism revenue. It’s sad. My MIL wants to rebuild and preserve the history as best as she can. It will be interesting to watch the process play out … jumping through the local government hoops for getting contraction permits is usually a long process (it took her almost 2 years to remodel the house starting in 2019).

My friends sister and her wife live on the interior of the island on I believe a 30 acre plot and he worked out there as a general contractor for a couple of years. He said outside of the tourist areas the island is an absolute S hole that is pretty but populated by overly aggressive meth head ethnic Polynesians that would freak out on him over him taking work away from so-called natives but none of the natives would do the work he was doing and they would vandalize his job sites, his truck, and his equipment. He said that he never plans on going back even though there's a pile of money to be made right now.

Overall I don’t think the island is a s hole, but that is absolutely occurring like you said especially upcountry and on the north side. One of my wife’s aunts had a small off the grid homestead far upcountry, and even though she’s a local and has lived on the island her entire life, she was constantly harassed as an invader just because she’s haole (white). She lost her home a year or so ago due to a suspicious fire that started while she was away at work … lost everything including her dogs. No cause was ever determined (police weren’t interested in investigating it).

My friend is married to a woman and he lives in Satellite Beach Florida. His sister is also married to a woman and she lives in Hawaii with her wife. I've never met her or her wife.

This will be a LONG-drawn-out process. It will be very interesting to see what happens. Its a clean slate.
