Yep. What it would become down here ain't what you would call "living". Sleeping in shifts to protect your water and tuna (until the ammo runs out, and I have a fair amount) isn't what I classify as "winning".

We have family that has a sufficiently set up ranch. We just have to get there (three hour drive on a good day). We have enough to last us a week at the house, which is not ideal, but the plan is to get to the ranch.

Quite a while. Lots of freeze-dried foods in two locations, 150 can food rotation rack, a pond full of fish. Pigs, deer, geese, ducks, cattle, etc. Rainwater capture and 1 million gallons of water in front of the house I can filter. Large and small generators and a 1000gals of propane to run them however I need to add quiet solar panels and batteries.

All that to say if my family and I can defend what we have we should make the 1st and 2nd downsizing of the population.

It's going to be hard out there so I'd rather just give up and die is a very interesting plan some have. Can't say I'm surprised through.

I grew up Morman, we didn't call it prepping and just called it food stores.

Spent some time in eastern Europe in the late 90s when Yugoslavia fell apart and can tell you that no one wanted tuna or other lean meats. People wanted soap, butane lighters, concealable arms, fatty and/or sweet foods, tobacco, and coffee. You could get a really good looking woman to stay the night with you for a can of the Russian version of spam.

If it got that bad it would be about protecting what you have. A small group could take your stuff that took you years to accumulate in a few hours.

I've seen this first hand. The wealthier you are and the more Your Castle stands out guarded by armed men the bigger the target you are. You will get taken down eventually because there is an unlimited amount of people that want what you have. There is absolutely no defensive strategy that wins. Offensive is the only way to play this game and going unnoticed is very valuable.

Edit, what actually happens in Western Nations isn't a total collapse. It is a semi collapse. Government will make the laws but street thugs will enforce the rules if that makes any sense. Loosely Affiliated gangs or other groups willing to use violence at behest of government officials becomes normal. We're already seeing that here with antifa and BLM. I've commented before that what is happening in this country today is exactly what happened in Yugoslavia in the 90s and I've seen how this plays out. If you're really interested in prepping to survive coming catastrophes that are not natural disasters then dig up as many accounts written by people that experienced the Civil War in Yugoslavia in the 90s. The lessons they learned the hard way can be passed on to you easily.

I would get a group organized and be out there doing what it takes.

You would be shot and butchered and your meat would be sold on the street corners for the hungry, poor and woman to buy

I would take over your property and others if it got to be that bad

A few of yalls post are really surprising and some not so much. I think Buzz but it on the head. It will be a bad that most can't even dream of. As a old man I know my time is short but I plan on going out doing my best. Getting the help for my neighbors who have young kids and trying to take out the ones who try to do the work of the bad. My kids are grown and I have no grandkids to worry about so I plan on setting the record before I go see God. I hope and pray that the good survive and the evil and wicked perish , as it's going to be a hard time and the good are needed for the rebuild of the society. Time to soul search and call on your inner warrior's spirit.

In case y'all couldn't guess I was kind of a weird little kid. I think I was about seven or eight and I got a book on eating what you can forage for. I lived in Tennessee at the time so food was plentiful and I told my parents I was going to only eat what I could find out side for a full week. I actually did it and my mom still teases me about it today. I probably ate a dozen squirrels that week if not more plus every kind of plant that you could find growing in the wild in Tennessee.

When you're being hunted you have to be lucky 24/7, when you are the hunter you only have to be lucky once. You have to sleep, there are people just as skilled with a rifle as you who if they are hunting you they will find you in a moment of unawareness and they will kill you. Mobility and not being noticed along with Community engagement either with the government or with whatever gangs are in power is critical.

There are several well thought out books based on first hand observation and experience on how to operate during a low intensity conflict which is what America is in right now whether people acknowledge it or not.
