I'm not good at math but I think it comes out to $800 per week. Times have changed but I started for around that much a month. Thoughts?

its not gonna solve anything bumping it up to $20 because inflation will make $20/hr the new $7.25.

Maybe I'm thinking the wrong way about this, but imo entry level jobs are exactly that...entry level. Not meant to be a career.

I read an article awhile back about guy who had worked as a busser at waffle house for 35 years and his son had worked there like 15. The piece was semi-spun around how little he was paid but in his tenure he never advanced.....and was quoted as saying " well, I never wanted to do anything different"

So really, whose fault is it? is the employer supposed to just hand him cash strictly on tenure for a entry level job?

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

But with our failed educational system (from all the cockamamie ideas), those jobs have to be careers. That's why they're so darn militant about it. "I didn't apply myself, so you owe me."

His lack of ambition must, somehow, be his employer’s problem.

$10 min wage is enough for non educated millennials who refuse to go to college

Start taxing 20% on all tip money as well btw

Ban fortnite and call of duty

I paid enough college and multiple masters to even touch that triple min proposed wage

Bump sales tax to 12.5% , reduce prop tax to 1%

Beaver/Pence 2020- 2024 and 2028

Your $800 a month in the 50s or 60s or whatever went a lot farther than $800 a month would today, but I in no way support a $15 or $20 minimum wage. I don’t even support a government-mandated minimum wage anyway, for several reasons.

But, here is all that needs to be said about this issue:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...ocialist-reality/?utm_term=.bd8bd76eb1a8

Quote
So, what was Sanders’s solution? First, he cut the hours of his field staffers from 60 to about 43 a week — which meant the campaign could say it was paying $15 an hour without actually increasing field organizers’ pay. Then on Monday, his campaign finally gave in and agreed to raise salaries to $42,000, preserve full health premium coverage and limit workers’ hours to 50 per week.

If you cant make it in Texas and biatch like a lil girl, I have no hope for you

Thoughts....Wish my first job had paid $800 a month. In 1973 my third job paid me $2.00 per hour machining helicopter parts. 60 hours weeks/ night shift. I did get a .06 bonus for night shift.. My first two jobs paid even less. At the time I thought that was pretty good considering my Dad worked for .50 an hour in the early 60's.

The dollar is worth less by 2-3% a year, I think its more like 4% and I am banking 5

Everything is getting so expensive, me looking for a 10% return, so far so good, averaging 11.8% the last 12 years

Nothing in his post said anything about education being a success.

If you choose to make minimum wage you have probably made many more bad decisions

Kids graduating now for the most part can't set up a budget, read or write in cursive, write a check, balance a check book, do a simple tax return, do simple math problems in their head, they have to diagram and break it down or use a calculator. Most can't even make change even when the cash register tells them how much it is. An example is a bill for $13.47 cents and I gave the person $15.50 and they gave me back a $5 bill and a quarter. I gave the money back and said the change should be $2.03, they called their lead person over and she said I was given the correct amount and handed me $5.25 and said thanks. I gave up and just took it and walked away.

I agree with some of the things you said. Where I take exception, and I see this a lot from people older than me, is:

No one cares about writing in cursive. I thought it was dumb when I was taught it, and I’m almost 40.

No one writes checks anymore. In fact, if you do, no one likes you. Therefore, there is no balancing a checkbook. It’s all managing your checking account, but writing a check, in a city, is a no-no. I understand a lot of people here probably still write checks and think balancing a check book matters, but it doesn’t for the kids in school right now, or the last twenty years.

No one does a “simple tax return” because tax returns aren’t simple (although they should be) and turbo tax is $50 and you can do it in your underwear in an hour or less.

Yes, the ability to perform simple math in their head is an issue. I believe everyone should be able to to basic arithmetic. But, just like reading a clock is unnecessary because everyone has a digital clock now, everyone also has a calculator on them at all times. It’s all in your phone. Right or wrong, that the way of the world now.

I still write checks for 90% of my bills, cause I got hacked on on line banking multiple times, realizing it could happen on my mailed checks many times. I just don't trust on line banking at all. Im still going to Winstar tomorrow and gang raping TFF folks on the poker table by the thousands. Mark my words.
