I too am very surprised at the distance this bird traveled, especially with the good conditions of the past 2 years. If I'm correct, that's 2 birds confirmed traveling over 20 miles. Ii now suspect maybe this is more common that anyone previously believed. This is the sort of information that can only be obtained through good old fashioned (in the trenches) scientific research .

Great job and thank you for sharing this with the forum. Should you or anyone else shoot any other banded bobwhites and need to contact RPQRR, feel free to send me a PM and I can most likely assist.

Also and along the same line, here is another bit of recent data that some of you may find interesting:

Sorry for the long weblink. Wasnt sure how to set up a shorter hyperlink.

Really easy. When you hit reply, the 2nd icon box fromthe top left in the reply box is for links to websites. You just paste the website in the box that pops up and hit okay, Then you can type the name of it and hit okay again and you are all set.

We shot a banded quail this weekend 15 miles NW of Sweetwater(Fisher county).
Good birds in the area also.

Sounds like this bird was not too far from the research ranch west of Roby.

It happened on 2/25 and it had a red ban(A&M)#11559.
Probably from Dale Rollins research.

Wow did yall see the map of origen of Matador visitors. That is amazing. We had Alaskans and hawians here to hunt quail. Just amazing. Said that over 10 thousand quail were harvested out there. Almost amazing as a quail that traveled almost 30miles. I'm guessing he was looking for longer legged women.

I will get some posted this evening or tomorrow morning.
