I had some dimming effect in .253 but in .266 the dimming is really a problem. Will revert back to .253

weeks ago when I called ATN the tech refused to admit there was a dimming issue. 253 on mine was just as bad. I'm not talking about how it dimms if you shine it on a branch close.I'm talking that whenever you hit the switch to make the IR brighter the screen would come back to the same brightness for all three settings.

Hi guys, my X-sight 5-18x just arrived (bought it after checking out the info on this forum---knowing that there would be others that are willing to be a test mule like me). I'm wanting to update it with the firmware that gives me the best possible Night Vision---I don't really care about any other features taking a back seat. So according to a few posts above it seems that the 174 update has the best quality NV. Where can I find the 174 firmware update? Is someone hosting it on a website somewhere (ATN's firmware site only goes back to 200)? If no one else is hosting previous firmware updates, then I'd be willing to host them in an online storage account and give the public access to it...that way, anyone could revert back to a previous version if they want to and the versions would be in one centralized location. Only thing is, I'd need someone to send me/email me those previous versions for me to upload OR if they are too big to email, then I could give you direct access to the account to upload them from your computer.

Previous versions of firmware can be located on ATN's website. http://www.atncorp.com/firmware/xsight3-12Which is best? Highly subjective. I'm running the current version of 266.

Thanks for the reply. When I clicked on the link that you reference for ATN's Firmware site, it only shows 5 previous versions---the earliest one being 1.8.00.200 update. I don't see the 174 update on their site...unless I'm just overlooking it.

174 had point of impact wandering issues I would advise against that version for safety sake.
Your zero would be constant but any zoom caused tracking problems.

A few reccomendations, others may disagree or make other suggestions as individual scopes seem to behave differently with the same version of firmware.
1- use the current version, it seems to be more stable. 2- use LOW Light Amplification, medium and high induce a "laggy picture". Very annoying when hunting at night. You will see an annoying flicker. Pick your poison. 3- use a different IR Illuminator. The one supplied is not very good. uNV20IR has been good for me. 4- get an Allen wrench and tighten all external screws. For that matter, pull the base off and tighten the screws underneath. 5- Make sure your battery cap is tightened very tight or your scope will shut down after the first shot. 6-use high quality rechargeable batteries. It will save you a ton of money. Panasonics are good. I get six hours out of mine. IIRC they are 1300 mAH. Be careful there are many out there that are as low as 350 mAH. 7-After sighting in write down your x/y coordinates. You will lose this every time you update firmware.
Oh and by the way, WELCOME to the forum.

Ok, I'll give 266 a go and see what happens. Thank you for the welcome and reply. I'll take your advice that's referenced above about the settings etc...appreciate the info. Good news for me is that a few weeks ago my T20IR and T74IR illuminators arrived from Ian@IRlightBuilds and Orbtronic protected Panasonic 3400mah batteries---I heard alot good things about his illuminators/those batteries....guess I'll find out here shortly. Thanks for the help gents.

I'm wanting to update it with the firmware that gives me the best possible Night Vision---I don't really care about any other features taking a back seat. Can't testify to flickering, FPS, etc. in NV. I do know that my 3-12 just arrived with version 253 and it does not auto dim. Hopefully my T50 illuminator will be here next week, and I can try everything out. Welcome to the forum.
God Bless

Anyone figured out how to transfer videos to a S5 and be able to view them Does your phone have a micro sd slot? My note 3 does and I just pull the card and put it in my phone and use "file manager" to view what's on the card. I've got the file on my SD card, that was no problem but the media player on the S5 won't play .mov files. Any suggestions

That they posted multiple firmware versions seems to indicate that ATN itself isn't confident in their latest releases...not to mention the support headache they just cracked open for themselves.
