Can't find a whole bunch of info on it. It's a full size Taurus 1911. Front cocking serrations, 3 dot sights, seems pretty tight, trigger was good. Anyone have any thoughts? It was 520.00 at academy.

Taurus can be hit and miss sometimes. I owned the 1911 and never had a lick of problems out of it.

Same here. I owned their 1911 for a while. Loose slide fit but it shot like a dream.

Look at buds for a RIA. Could come out $50-100 cheaper.

Never owned the taurus, but have handled them, and taken ome apart. Seem well built, with pretty much all the bells and whistles for a 1911. Have a buddy that has owned several of them and he loves them. Said they shoot good.

Most opinions from 1911 Aficionados is the Taurus is not a great gun. Other options in the same price range.

FYI - CDNN has had them in their recent ads for $399.

IMO if you want a rock solid 100% reliable 1911 be prepared to spend in the $1k ballpark.

I'm a Glock fanboy myself, but even I know that is extreme.

I have one. Never had an issue with it. Since I'm not very good with any kind of short gun, I can't attest to the accuracy. But I figure that it shoots better than I do.

Early models had issues with the safety lever falling off.

I say $700. That'll get you a lower grade Kimber that'll shoot perfect each and every time. Just my opinion and I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of mine. After that gun, no Taurus, RIA or Citadel or any other "cheap" 1911's for me but I still will never shoot a Wilson because I don't want to HAVE to have one.

Realistically, the Taurus will probably always shoot for you, but that brand had always made me nervous, personally. Again, it may never fail on you tho

When Taurus first came on the scene they had serious quality issues. They have come a long way over the years. I carry a Taurus .38 Ultralite as a CCW some and have shot a few hogs in traps with it as well as some targets. It's been flawless so far and I would consider buying one if I were looking for a 1911 platform.

Nothing wrong with a used 1911. Should be able to get nice used springfield armory 1911 for that which id rather have over a Taurus.

father in law has a taurus 1911 and likes it well enough but it is not even near the top of the list on his favorite pistols. That said, it goes bang every time.

I myself am a 1911 fan so I have not found one I don't like yet. Even if they take some work breaking down and cleaning up 1911s are my favorite handgun. If it is a tight fit and fits your hand well then I'd go for it

RIAs are less money but the Taurus is a better pistol IMO. I think the Taurus 1911s are probably the best cheap 1911s on the market. They tend to shoot well and most have pretty decent triggers.

They are not well built.

I was in a class in which a student had one.

It made it a few hours and few 100 rounds before the plunger tube fell off and it was out of commission.

Buy once, cry once.

I don't know much about the Taurus 1911, but I don't think one guy with one in a class is really a reflection of how well they are made.

I have seen several catastrophic failures with the Taurus 1911's. I would shy away from them.

Have a friend that has one like you described. It wouldn't chamber a round so I took it and looked it over and found ejector was the problem, got it worked out and went and ran about 50 rounds throught it and it shot those rounds real solid. Like they have said they are hit and miss for quality.
