I had forgotten about that 63 gr Sierra, but that was the first 22 cal bullet I used for pigs back in the 1980's. A buddy and I were going on a pig hunt (first for both of us) and he didn't have a rifle. I took my 270 and loaned him my 220 Swift. I really didn't think it would be the right rifle, but it was all I had. So I loaded up some of the 63 grainers, thinking that was the heaviest bullet I had for it, so that's what I'd go with. I watched him shoot his first pig. It was running pretty hard, out about 75 yards. He shot the pig in the shoulder and it dropped and dug a trench with its snout. DRT. Same with the second pig. That's a good bullet for pigs.

I also experimented with that bullet on deer back then. It worked, but I went back to my 270.

thanks 603, appreciate the feedback. I'm looking for the same thing as the OP, but I also plan on shooting deer.

What was your powder and load if you dont mind sharing. I'm running an AR with 1/8 twist

thanks

Personally don't think you can beat a 60 Grain Nosler Partition in a 223 for deer and hogs with most common twist rates. If your going to neck/head shoot it doesn't really matter what you use. If your making body shots it shouldn't take long to see how the partitions are superior to the other varmint bullets such as v-max ballistic tips and in my opinion pretty much any other non bonded, partitioned, or mono metal bullet such as barnes.

If you have a fast enough twist the 75 grain Swift Sirrocos come highly recommended by many.

Treebass, that 63 grainer was the heaviest bullet (and still is) that would stabilize in the 220 Swift, so my load data for that rifle won't help you. But...I shoot the 65 grain Sierra GK some in the 223 and I load it over about 25 grains of AA2230. Shoots great. And I've shot a deer or two with it. That said, redchevy is right in that probably the best bullet for deer in the 223 is that Nosler Partition. I used it on a big hog a couple years ago. Shot him longways (he would NOT turn to give me a side shot) from the back. Killed him pretty dead. I can't remember what the load was, or even the powder (it was probably AA2230 or H335), but you need to work up the load for your rifle anyway. And with a 1 in 8 twist, you can probably shoot that 75 grain Swift bullet.

And just to say it, that 63 grain Sierra SMP bullet shoots great in anything I ever tried it in. So does the 65 grainer.

Have an AR with 1-9twist and shoots 60gr partition very well behind 25gr of varget.
