Last fall, my buddy and I booked a 5 day self guided Aoudad hunt with Mulie Mike. Well, being the lucky guy I am, 3 days into the hunt we hadn't seen anything except rocks and cactus!! LOL. Long story short, the weather couldn't have been worse, the sheep just weren't moving and we couldn't seem to find them.
We did walk right into the middle of a covey of blue quail that I don't think had ever seen a human being. My buddy and I stood there in disbelief with 18 quail walking circles around us chirping at us from 3-4 feet away like "what planet are you guys from?" I have hunted all my life but was an experience I will never forget!
I called Mike the evening of our 3rd day to let him know that we were going to call it quits due to the lack of movement, and he said "I will get with you next month after our next guided hunt and get you guys back out for a couple days..." WOW are you kidding me?? This was a self-guided NO GUARANTEE hunt on a ranch that I had previously hunted that I knew for a fact had good sheep on it and this guy (that I had booked with 1 whopping time previously) was gonna let us come back when the animals were moving better!! A quick pep talk to my buddy and we were making plans for another short little 1300 mile round trip in March to give it another try for a couple days.
Well, as it turned out, that was just what we needed. After completely ruining a pair of boots (and my body) hiking countless miles in some of the most rugged terrain for 5+ days, I was rewarded with my 2nd (and best) free range Aoudad. He was broomed off a little on the ends, 31.5" length 11.5" bases, I know you guys have killed bigger/better but I couldn't be happier with him. I have no idea what he scores, but he is in MY record book and that is all that matters to me.
Many Many thanks to Mike, he didn't have any reason in the world to offer to let us come back for round 2 but the fact that he did(and never hesitated) speaks volumes to the kind of outfit he runs. From my previous experience, I would have recommended Mike to anyone looking for an Aoudad hunt, now I may have to put up a billboard on the interstate!!!

Well my buddy wasn't quite so lucky. I shot my ram at 11am,after caping him and hiking back to truck the day was gone. It took well over 5hrs to hike back out. We were about as far from the truck as we could be without leaving the ranch (over 3 miles straight line by gps) prob 6 miles +-
We only were able to hunt till noon 2nd day, he had to get back to work

Congrats on a great ram, and yes Mike is a stand up guy.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

Well Joe, I was shooting a Rem 700 in 7mm saum 168gr berger vld @ 3160 fps. When I first saw him he was 306 yds looking straight at me. He totally won the staredown, I was breathing like I had climbed Everest and amazingly totally blew the full frontal 306 yd chip shot. Fortunately for me I work well under pressure (intense pressure). At the first shot, he ran a big circle below where he was standing almost facing completely away and I put another (I thought I had hit him 1st shot) right behind ribs at a severe angle up into the chest cavity. At the second shot he stood straight up on hind legs and came down headed for the edge of the canyon. He stopped briefly on the edge of canyon wall and I dropped him with the 3rd shot (to the left jaw unfortunately) He fell 6 inches from falling 150' straight down a cliff and no doubt would have fallen several hundred feet more before he finally stopped rolling. The last shot was at 406 yds according to rangefinder and would be easier to be proud of had I not given it to him on the chin so to speak. It was like a grenade going off in his mouth and pics were pretty graphic of kill site.
These are tough animals, I didn't expect to see an exit on the chest shot from the Bergers but the shot in his jaw didn't exit either. It didn't tear up the hide much, only a hole a little larger than a quarter, which my taxi should love. The first aoudad I shot on this ranch several yrs ago was with a 300 win mag and 150 gr sierra at 3350 fps, shot was 455 yds (come to think of it I missed him on first shot too) and the bullet went about 4-5" into chest and blew up inside heart. I know someone has killed one with a 22 lr or a slingshot or something but I am giving my observation of their ability to soak up lead and I am impressed to say the least.

Very nice... I have a good feeling I'm one of the hunters that ram got away from a couple weeks ago.. My gun got knocked off of zero 12in at 100 so at 450 I was nowhere close.. Should have known to double check before going out.

Glad someone got him and congrats
