whats the proximity? I know I would be pizzed if some idiot woke me up shooting right near my house just for 6 ducks. Legal or not, there has to be some sort of buffer and mutual respect involved.

why would you be pissed, if someone is hunting legally? If you don't like waking up to gunfire, don't move near hunting areas or S. Dallas.

Duckhuntr35 I agree with you the other morning me and a couple of thf guys went out to lake x and the closest house was 200-300 yards away and right after the first time we shot a guy came outside and started shooting a pistol hitting the water about 25 yards in front of us called the cops he told them he was "target shooting" I told them yea if we are the targets maybe and they said there was nothing they could do about it kinda pissed me off ended up not getting any ducks either had to pic up and make the mile walk back to my car to talk to the police

Problem is if the landowner pushes the issue and presses charges, your pics could be a mugshot. My brother went through this a few yrs back. He beat it in front of a judge but it got expensive. You may beat the rap but you can't beat the ride. The laws in TX favor the landowner.

We had this discusion here on Lake Livingston last year omg I named a lake anyway lake was low and the subdivision I live in just happened to have alot of ducks sitting right in the only hole of water that there was and the nearest house was probably 100 yds guess what they got woke up......

Also you don't have to be anchored. It is 100% legal to drift or scull hunt a river. Here's what I have figured out with this: Most of the gw's in TXdon't know what the hell they are talking about if the animal isn't a deer!

I'm pretty sure if the GW gets called out, they will probably be issuing some tickets. The landowner will most likely exagerate the situation making things even worse. I was dove hunting one time and a lady called the GW and said that we had peppered her house which was over 300 yards away, yes 300 yards, luckily the GW was a cool dude and we agreed to move another 300 yards away from the property line. She would make her rounds every hunt to make sure we were not in the same spot even though it was completely legal.

What if this thread is way off base, and all it would take is a knock on a door followed by a firm handshake to have a sweet new spot with no paddling involved?

Thats right Brazos as long as your motor is raised and all forward motion from the motor has stopped you can paddle up and shoot ducks all day

I decided to go ahead and hunt a little bit farther away than what I really wanted, just to avoid any trouble, only shot one gadwall. Again though there was many many ducks held up right in front of the houses. I did find a whole lot more ducks though when I scouted a different part of the river. From the maps it looks to be legal, on one side the city limit borders the river so I'm going to make a few calls to make sure it's all good. Got my fingers crossed becuse there was a ton of freaking birds and no houses.

Don't post an idea that gold here for everyone to see it. Retailers will start selling it and we will see GHG's "wonderbread line" and of course "multi-grain whole wheat" for your slimmer ducks.

Like I said in an earlier thread. A camera can be a powerful weapon. If you filmed him shooting at you and the bullets hitting nearby, then texted the video clip to operation game thief with GPS coordinates attached, explaining your pinned down taking fire and may need to start shooting back to defend yourself, you would have had a very different response and outcome.

There are places I hunt "resident geese". I have hunted from a closed swim beach, and have hunted next to picnic tables. Those birds may be somewhat tame and hand fed in the summer, but when they start getting shot at, they get smart fast, they move to the non hunting areas, and become much more unpredictable than migrants on the same water.

Dave and I joked about using a sillouette decoy of a little girl holding a loaf of wonder bread and play bread slices in the decoys. We had a laugh discussing it and what a great spoof picture it would make, but hey, stranger things have worked. Remember the guys using sheet plastic to decoy ducks to a fake pond.
