I was born at home. I grew up on a cotton farm in Arkansas. I picked cotton. I plowed mules. It wasn't all bad. Some of my fondest memories were of my three years in third grade. We always grew sweet potatoes for the winter months. I'd come in from walking 3 miles from school and my mother would always have sweet potatoes in the oven of our wood burning cook stove. We'd hold them by the little end, peel off the top end, stuff butter in there and eat them like an ice cream cone.
We didn't have a microwave back then, but I now have one. I made a comfort food dinner, of meatloaf, macaroni, and cheese, then found a sweet potato left over from Thanksgiving. I threw that sucker in the microwave for 8 minutes. It came out fine. Ever tried a sweet potato in the microwave?

I do it all the time, usually wrap them in a semi damp paper towel and poke it a few times with fork.

I love sweet taters. I do the honey or maple syrup action with butter of course.

Love sweet taters, like Bill said kinda a comfort food. I am also guilty of cooking them in the Microwave.
I now use them in stews as thickening agent. Bake them in the MW then a little juice from the pot of stew mash the tater up with the juice and add into the stew. throws a little sweet tater taste to the whole stew.
Other ways I enjoy them, ate them raw when a kid and still take a bite or two that way when making country fried sweet taters, or sweet tater fries.
Mashed Sweet Taters are good also.
Since becoming diabetic have stayed away from adding sugar to them but candied and sweet tater casserole are also good eating.
Thanks for bringing up one of my favorite foods Bill

I love them, sweet potatoes are sweet to me as they are no sugar needed, but the butter is nice.
I like to grill them and get a little crunch on the skin.
We have also made mashed sweet taters and sweet tater fries, but not everyone is so fond of them... whats wrong with them!

We used to bake them, peel the big end down some then jam it in a pan of hot cracklings. Wow, haven't done that since the early 70's and probably won't ever get the chance again.

Everyday for lunch. Great protein snack. I love sweet potatoes and I have been eating them my whole life but I never considered them to be high in protein.

When making a chicken soup, try adding a cubed sweet potato while cooking. You will be amazed at the flavor benefit.
