Just got some simple lights from Homers a 54 lumen light, will post and let you know how it works later. I'm sure it may take a while for the deer and piggies to get used to it.

Got tired of a flashlight

I messed with a bunch of different lighs and finally got the Exterminator from Sniper Hog Lights. It is maintenance free and works everytime I go hunting. Great thing is the hogs are used to red light so when we hit them with the red flashlights, they don't spook.

i have had a few trial and error homemade light systems.

1. the T-post/hog tube light. it fits over the post that the tube is connected to.



i first found that the 55 watt light pulled too much power. i switched them out with 12 volt led bulbs in drop light cans.



i found out that the motion switch on the bottom of the box in the center was not as weather proof as i thought.

2. EW feeder light and motion switch. work great and got a bunch of kills but it drained the battery (feeder battery) and because the motion switch was not weather proof then i had to put it up for hunts and then take it down.





3. current setup.

i did make a bracket that i mounted the base for the Dorcy light so i can put it up and take it down easily.





you can see my latest addition to my feeder. the raccoon had ripped out my timer, battery and chewed all the wires. i brought the feeder to the house and dual propose enclosure to keep raccoon out and divert the corn under the feeder into the lights.

with a academy cheapo solar panel and a 5ah 6 volt battery, it has been going for a year now. doesn't put out a lot of light but with the added lights, it does the job. i use the clear lens .

Here's mine. This is made from a green 3-up indo-star led from ledsupply.com. The cylinder with a lens in it can be bought as a kit which includes the led and a led driver called a buckpuck. The kit is made to be mounted to the electrical junction box. The buckpuck is inside the junction box.

The battery is a 4 cell lithium ion. These batteries have high power for their size and weight. The battery produces about 15 volts and can easily power the light all night. I use this battery for two purposes. I do the electric powered RC aircraft hobby so I already had the battery and charging system (Charger not shown but is cheap) setup for these. So I just use the RC stuff I already had to power the hog light.

The piece on the bottom of the light is a light bulb socket with the guts removed. This can be placed over a t-post or a camera tripod to position the light when I setup for a hunt. The light is bright enough that I can place it about 10 to 15 yards from the feeder and have have plenty of light to shoot. It will light up about a 25 yard by 25 yard area around the feeder. This setup is portable so I can always place it downwind of the feeder. I am also setup downwind with the light between me and the feeder. This way you don't contaminate the area with your scent.

I have been using it for about 2 years now and it is the best setup I have been able to come up with. Cost me about $60.00.

PAFREE.....How do you keep the Moonshine working? I tried 3-4 of these and they would only work about 2 weeks.

i just made one with 2 Whelen 600 12v red leds screwed them to a 4x4 post and but a switch and a lawn mower battery in a ammo can ive been looking for a 12v motion sensor to sweeten it up a little bit as it is right now i just have to turn them on when i get in the stand

most of the cheaper 12 volt motion switches i have found have low amp max ratings.(FYI: the light it is turning on can only draw less than 5 amps. example: LED lights) you could use the motion switch to trip a relay to turn the lights on. example: http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/...ir-5a/969/2371/

Hey, post us a pic of your setup! sounds interesting, have similar setup using yard lights, but want to convert to motion so they dont burn all night or till be get to the stands.

I built a portable unit out of an old coffee creamer can. It has a 12v. battery inside it (foamed in place), a charging plug and on/off switch are mounted externally, and it uses green led strips around the outside. I put a magnet on top of it so I can just walk up, stick it to the bottom of the feeder and flip the switch to turn it on. Gives enough light to see pretty well @ 175 yds. but I haven't shot anything under it yet.
I'll get some pics up when I can.

Pigs can get use to feeder lights, but using a green or red light on your gun is more effective IMO. I like to sit by the feeder or pig pipe and hit them with the light (mounted on my scope) and then pull the trigger. I have kill a few hogs this way and have never had one run from the light.

After I bought the first one and tested it. I was able to order directly from China and get one of these lights along with batter, charger and scope mount for less than $30. I had 3 setups and sold one to my partner. I keep 2 on hand now in case someone hunts with me. I can see bright as day out to 75 yards with my Burris scope. Could probably see farther but haven't tried.

Pittstate, some nice lights you got,i bougth some similar,is from china and is a good one.

i dont have any pics handy right now ill be setting it up this week the lights are emergency vehicle lights and probably wouldnt be reasonable for this use if i had paid for them but they are really bright and will burn forever on a lawnmower battery my setup definately needs a motion sensor and a 12v solar panel but its still in the R&D phase
