Depends on the distance you'll be shooting and the type of foliage you may have to shoot through if needed. Generally speaking, I would agree with Central Texas's input of .223.

Any rifle with which, you can consistantly place a bullet in a 4 inch circle at 200 yards.

Harley Davidson Motorcycles.....the most efficent way to convert gasoline into noise, without the side effects of Horsepower.

up Good one.

.223, .243, 7mm-08...there are several to choose from. When factoring in costs though, a .223 is probably one of the best bets. There are so many ammo options available and it's cheap enough to not totally wipe out your savings. smile

You can only have too much ammo if you are on fire or swimming....

I used a 220 and then a 223, but then was seeing more big pigs than coyotes and the 22 calibers weren't putting them down fast enough. I switched to my 260 and OOO BABY they get put down fast now. I used it on a coyote just about 90 minutes ago. It's been real dry here, so when I blasted him I had to wait for the dust cloud to settle. Yup, there he was. Don't try this at home if you want to keep the pelt.

I like my Howa Axium 22-250. I also have a Savage 12FV .223. A Hornady V-max from either one is lethal. Heavy barrels are ok in a blind, but I would not want to pack one too far. They get heavy fast considering all of the other gear. That is when I either take my Armalight M15 or Rem Mod 98 .243.

This is what I used on a big bodied deer with a shot to the chest, he ran 50 yds max. There's a 75 pound difference at least between a deer and a yote. Great bullets by the way.

22-250, 204, 223, 308, 7 mag, 7-08, 243, 25-06, 257, even a 22 mag will work, though a little undergunned itll work. I prefer a a howa 308 with an fmj.

Yes, for sure. Just be careful of what is behind your targets and careful of how loud that will be if hunting at night.

+1 on the .243 with a 58gr v-max
