2 feeders at every stand for me.
One has issues, the other one can take up the slack.

It's crazy - like a fox! My main stand I have two feeders. One NW at about 90 yards, and one east about 120 yards. Both are 500 pound feeders.

There are several advantages to this setup:

(1) First, feeders break down. It's a fact of life. Having two feeders in the area means that if trouble develops in one, you still have a feeder going until you can get parts and make repairs - provided an unbroken feeding cycle.

(2) Secondly, two feeders at different positions allow me to hunt the same stand on different wind/weather conditions.

(3) While I see mostly the same deer at both feeders on cam, that's not 100% true. I most definitely have some bucks that will come to one of the feeders, and not the other. I have no idea why - maybe its surrounding cover, maybe it's sound, I dunno - but it's a fact.

(4) Off season, I have one setup to throw in the morning, and the other in the afternoon. It makes my corn last longer and gets the deer coming to my area using different approaches at different time of the day. And before some smart-arse says that one 1000 feeder will last the same - I can tell you it doesn't. 2 seconds on a 1000 lb feeder will empty about 6 days faster than two 500 lb feeders throwing 1 second. I can't explain it logically, but again it is an observed documented fact for me (I also have a 1000 lb feeder in another area). About a month before season, I up both of them to throw morning and evening.

(5) One of my 500lb feeders can be converted to protien. I can switch it over during the sprint early summer to protien and switch it later in the summer back over to corn.

(6) Sound - deer definitely get to recognize a feeder going off and come running. With two feeders will offset times in the morning and evening, I get the added advantage of the "dinner bell" ringing twice. I also have the deer come in to one feeder and eat a bit, then when the second feeder goes off - they start drifting over to the other feeder using a game trail that puts them crossing broadside in an opening at 40 yards. They get so used to doing this that when the second feeder goes off, it's like they lose all caution and beeline for the other feeder. There's a big brushpile at the edge of this opening, and while I don't bowhunt, I've buried up there with my camera and have them come trotting by where I could reach out and touch them.

Sounds stupid to me. Are you talking about a corn throwing feeder and a self-feed protein feeder?
