Here's a question, why do they produce reduced recoil loads from the factory? Applies to all the super mags. So that recoil sissys can show thier buddies thier big super magnum while failing to mention they use sissy loads because they cant handle the recoil. Its the best of both worlds.....big super mag they can brag about, but sissy recoil that they can handle.

Probably have their wife go buy it for them too...or they get up to the counter puff up their chest and loudly proclaim "I'm buying these for the wife."

I don't do well with high recoil...I'm Not a sissy, nor an idiot that likes to beat his head a against the wall because it feels good either.
I'm much more deadly with a 257wby then I ever will be with a 300mag

JCB - Do you have to wear a seatbelt when you shoot your 300 RUM? No. I just need to make sure I have one foot forward and one foot back so I dont lose my balance.

Yep, you can use an enormous rifle to kill small animals. The people that do are compensating for personal shortcomings but most won't admit it. Thank you Chris I forgot that one.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I have been shooting one for 5 years. Do alot of long range hunting in NC. Never had one walk away from it. With the muzzle brake it kicks like my .308, Shoot 150 grain reloads and it does about the same damage as my .270 but if I wanted(wanted not saying I am trying) I could drop one at a 1,000 yards. I say if you want to shoot it shoot it, your paying for it not others. Leupold Mark 4 8.5x25x50 on top.

Anything less than overkill is underachievement!
If it's not overkill then it's underachievement.

Why take a cannon to a street fight when a switchblade will suffice?

I've been shooting a .300 ultra mag for years and love it. The only time recoil is a problem is when you're sighting it in. I've gone for 9 years before pulling the trigger on a big buck and when I do I want him to go down. That last deer was a 162 2/8" 8 pointer and I shot him at a measured 300 yds. Took him with a .358 shooting times alaskan. He didn't go anywhere but down. I don't think there is such a thing as "too much gun".

I'll be using one at one place I hunt as a consequence of a project in progress. The goal is to see if nitriding will affect accuracy as some claim-plus adding longevity. And to that end, I bought the least-costly Savage small-shank barrel I could find for the test. It was either .300 RUM or .375 H&H, and the RUM lends itself better for the test.
That said, being mindful of the barrel-burning reputation of the round, I have shot nothing but PL I and II ammo (24 rds. total, to date) to burnish the bore prior to nitriding. If part of the goal is increased barrel life, there's no need to wear the bore any more than necessary at this stage nor buy the costliest ammo for break-in.
After it's nitrided, I see no advantage to using a watered-down load nor this caliber for WT.
