the bow hunters have the lease right now and i am not a bow hunter. i went out yesterday for the first time since bow season started to make sure my stuff is still in one piece. after finding a little raccoon damage to my feeders then i checked out my stand. my stand is 7 foot off the ground with no trees close by. i gave it a tap and a few wasps flew out from under it. my son and i went inside and found a bunch of dirt dobber nest but everything looked good. my son went down the ladder first and i followed. i looked under the cot and saw a 2 foot long snake skin. i pulled it out and handed it down to my son.

question: i don't think it is in the stand because we sat and moved a couple of shelves under the windows around but would putting a couple of bug bombs help get it out if it is still there?

how do you figure it got in there? Is the door situated close enough to the stairs/ladder and have enough of an opening to allow a snake to crawl in?

My stand is a trailer blind, sits about a foot off the ground but the door seals pretty tight (enough that only ants or something could get in) and the windows do the same. I have been in blinds though where a snake could easily crawl in through the door after winding up the ladder...

you must either have a very large blind or a lot of clutter to not know if the snake is still present or not. I wouldnt be too concerned if you didnt see him slithering around. Just make sure your doors and windows are secured as much as possible and not leave any junk inside that would attrack mice and birds.

I have found skins under the carpet in mine twice, it sits 8 feet up and we own the land, I just pull the carpet out to shake the leaves and what not. I just figured it used the carpet to help get the skin off...BUT, I am always leery of getting in it....I should have done as stated above, burned it down and rebuilt and sealed tight!

Just wait until one gets in there with you......Been there and flush funny to think about a big guy hug the roof. The stand was six feet off the ground no trees still do not know how he came in the window that high off the ground.

the blind is 6x8. a little cleaning could be in order but the wife won't come out to the lease. i do have plastic bags with sheets and blankets on the floor. the windows are covered but only have gravity covers. the door has less than a 1/2 inch of light showing but it is over the ladder.

it has a cot. the wife got a new couch and i got her old cushions. i made a platform/cot to lay/power nap on while waiting on the hogs.

the plan is clean/get everything off the floor, hang the linen from a hook on the wall, weather strip around the door and windows and add window latches and the wife suggested moth balls.

A 1/2 gap is more than enough room for a rather large snake to get through.

hmmm. This leads me to a question about my own stand which BTW has carpet in it. Can a snake crawl through a window? My stand is on the ground but through the window would be the only way to get in.

I have seen my grandpa open the stand door up and there is a 4 foot snake parallel with it on a 1 inch board coming out!! Couldnt tell if it was a rattler or not but I screamed snake when i saw it! I dont usually mind snakes but when they are in my bubble it scares me! Found a mouse in there after the snake had abandoned the door! The snake was greyish and had a arrow head so that stood out to me as danger! Can anyone tell me what type they think it is?

Shooting prone from an elevated stand...I like it.

I'd be a vegitarian too if bacon grew on trees.

i have thought about a peep hole to look out laying down so when the hunter alert goes off then i see if it is a raccoon or hog without getting up.

Just think how many times your stand may have been visited by the reptilian creatures that you don't know about. lol If your stand is elevated then your visitor most likely is a harmless rat snake however just look around and you can quickly assertain if he is still there. Ground blinds would concern me far more.

Nice stand!.

Might not hurt to do some clearing around the base as well and keep it maintained..especially any fallen trees or wood piles..

That's awesome!

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.
