1 lb LUMP BLUE CRAB
3 slices of bread,crust removed
1 egg
1 tablespoon of Mayo not miracle whip
1 teaspoon mustard
1 tablespoon worcestershire
1 tablespoon old bay
1/2 cup chives

pull the bread apart in fingertip size pieces and mix with the crab meat...mix the remaining ingredients in a separate bowl...combine the two bowls folding in the ingredients..DO NOT mix thoroughly..You want the lump meat the be lumps not shredded...I can usually get 6 to 7 good sized patties out of this recipe...get a skillet with BUTTER and olive oil covering the bottom....cook on each side 4 minutes medium high heat..you dont want the oil smoking......I dont add salt or pepper because the old bay and mayo has plenty...If you want to add a little spice you can add a dash of cayeenne or paprika...

I do the same but use saltines instead of bread. Love some crab cakes!

Sounds about like I make mine and it also works for salmon cakes as well. I use the crackers also most of the time but ocassionally use bread

Eastons recipe is good but instaed of searing them it would be easier to just bake them, take some melted butter mixed with old bay and spon it over them and bake at 350 for 25 minutes they will turn out perfect.

I tried this recipe last weekend and it was good.

I cleaned and picked around 50 blue crabs and used saltines and baked them.

Baking is easier for sure.

No. I live a couple hours North of the coast, but I was down there for a week and fished every day. We put the trout carcasses in 2 traps on the wharf every evening and each trap would have 20 to 25 crabs the next afternoon.

We ate a lot of crabs.

we usually spend a week down on trinity bay and fish and crab. i thought (i could be wrong) using game fish for bait was illegal. we did use croaker scraps.

I could be wrong but I think it is ileagal to use game fish as live bait, if it is already cleaned for consumption and you are just using the carcass for ait it is ok.

Specks. We have always done this. It's just the head, skeleton and guts left. If we don't put them in a crab trap then we just throw them in the bay under the cleaning table.

It may be illegal, but it is a stupid law if it is. I really don't know.

I live in Alabama.

If they start writing tickets for it here, then they will soon run out of tickets.
