My lease owner bought a drop down root-in style door (angled not gillotine). The trap is 8'w x 16' l open top with cattle panels (coral type pen). The door does not have a mechanism to set the door in the up position so you can insert a pin, etc. I need some latch/trigger ideas. Do any of you have any pics for this type of set up?
Also how high do you set the cable that goes across back of trap to pull trigger?
How far back should the cable be placed from back of trap?
What type of cable do you use? Does it need to have the vinyl covering on the cable?
Thanks as always.

get a piece of rebar bend it in a L shape to hold the gate open , put a spring on the gate or bungee cords where there is pressure to close it run a rope to back of pen where corn will be when they hit the rope it will pull rebar back an release the door might have to play with how much bend you have in rebar

Those type of traps I just use a 20-24in stick to prop the door up/open and when a hog big enough comes in it will lift the door the rest of the way to get in and the door closes behind him. In traps Ive learned less is better.

i put mine 12 inches high. 3/4 of the way into the trap and i use tar string trotline string from wally world. strong stuff and if it get messed up when the hogs get trapped then just use a little more of the roll.

hey guys, tie stay wire to the stick and run it to the back of the trap.. Run a piece of wire all the way across the back about 18 inches high. Then tie the wire from the stick to the wire running across the back. Use the stick to prop the door open. put your bait at the back between the wire and the pen. When a big hog goes to the back to feed, he will hit the trip wire pulling the stick out of the door. Just make sure all the wire is tight. Works like a charm

Mine is similar to the stick method except I cut a 2x4 in half and hinged it. The wire runs from the "stick" to the rear of the trap. I then tied another wire perpendicular to it making an X under the feeder.
Once they enter the trap they get tangled in the wire and pull the hinged 2x4 down letting the gate go. Just make sure the hinge is set to collapse the right way! Most caught at one time was 12, bullets were flying.
H20thief ------------ Positive thinking may not solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
