Can any members in the Houston/Harris County area suggest a good place to get tamales?

We used to have a gal, Maria, at the office that took orders before her family made them. That is all history now, but they were great. We also had a neighbor that had a family gathering for tamale making and she'd share a dozen with us. Again, history. I am going to have to try a couple of the suggestions.

in Houston, I like the tamales I have made at Pete's meat market on Richmond. I generally take a deer there every year to get some tamales made. They sell tamales also. I find that they aren't very big, but they have a GREAT flavor.

The best tamales I've ever eaten were sold to me by a senorita in the parking lot of the grocery store in Cross Plains.

Tamales should be pork and NEVER chicken, IMO. Had great tamales all across Texas. Hard to pin it down to one great one though.

Thats the way to get them. When i was going to tarleton I used to get mine from a little old lady. She sold them everyday in a vacant lot on washington close to the wal mart.

Now that i think about it i never saw any stray dogs around the ville. loco

We've got a woman in the Beaumont area that goes around selling tamales. They're un-freaking-believable.

I had to drive all over mac/lufkin this afternoon after reading this thread! I found some great ones at a little shop but nothing like my BIL's mom. She retired from making them last year so I am out of luck this christmas. No idea what she did to them but have never had any as good as Mama Lopez's

The best, and I mean the absolutely best tamales are made by a company in Lubbock - "Pedro's Tamales." The plant and a retail outlet are located off of US 87 just south of Lubbock but they are also available at United SuperMarkets and other grocery chains. Frozen are ok but to get the best, go by the plant early in the morning.... Hot dang, they're good.

So she says "sure Honey, I agree, you DO need a new deer rifle..." And that, boys, is how I ended up with new living room furniture!

There is a series of stores in San Antonio called Delicious Tamales. I am not going to say they are the best, but they are the best I can get to when I want some.

I like the jalapeno pork and the regular pork

$7.50 a dozen

The best I have had come from family vendors. But they are not always around when I have a craving

7.50 is very reasonable. Most places here are 10.50 to 12.00 per dozen

The Delicious tamales are not small, but they are machine made and are uniform in filling and size.

I usually buy 3 dozen. I eat one while they are hot as soon as I leave the shop and take the other 2 home for Karla and the kids. If I dont get in em first.

I love tamales.
