Down in the Rio Grande Valley, we are blessed to have Delia's Tamales. It's a ritual around the office...Delia's Tamales for breakfast every Friday morning. She also ships...www.deliastamales.com.

Hey Buster, the link wouldn't work.

Sorry about that...try the following link. http://deliastamales.com/ordereze/coming_soon.htmlIf the link doesn't get you there, Google Delia's Tamales. Her web site is still under construction. This lady started out making tamales and delivering them door to door. She eventually built a restaurant in the ground floor of a auto repair and salvage yard on south 23rd St. in McAllen. She now has five locations in the upper valley. If you want tamales for the Christmas holiday, you have to order them at least two weeks before the holiday. She shuts down walk-in service right before Christmas to fill the orders. The store we buy from is in Pharr (about three blocks from our office). It sits on the corner of a busy intersection, and last Christmas, the Pharr Police Department assigned a uniformed officer to direct traffic in and out of her parking lot (which is not the biggest in the county). I am a gringo, but I have even developed a taste for her menudo.

These are the best I have ever had. Used to have a friend from El Paso bring me back some every time she went home. http://pepestamales.net/Home_Page.html

Pretty good tamales come out of the Mama's kitchen down the hall. Making up a batch of tamales is not easy. Mama has fired me more then once as her chief tamale roller.

Try Rudy's Tortilla factory on Harry Hines at Regal Row. They are the best that I have tried.

I have searched from border to boarder both N to S and West to East and none come close to Pepe's. The masa is second to none and their green chile chicken is superior. sweet tamales are a whole other category but since I don't eat them, i don't care.

The one's that a meskin kid sells to us at the office every Friday morning. Hot & fresh.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Now those are tamales.
That is a dying culinary art. Cherish it to the fullest.

I promise you, nobody's gonna beat your mamma's. I think Texans feel about tamales like they feel about barbeque. We are all particular, and we all have a different idea about what they ought to taste like. I like 'em meaty and spicy, and I don't have a favorite right now. Nobody I know of currently quite makes them just how I think they ought to be.

Best tamales are at a place called Lupes in Canutillo on west border of El Paso. You know your in a good spot when you have a line coming out the door of old school Mexicans waiting for their turn. They have fresh tamales red, green, cheese, sweet raisin and every other Mexican delicacy like fresh chicharonnes (real not fake!), colita's de pavo (turkey azz), carnitas (deep fried pork chunks) and freshly made corn torilla's and it happens to be one of the few places i know of anymore that has soda in real glass bottles. Had some this weekend and tummy hurt so bad cuz I ate so much. Going back this weekend!!! I take some to the lady that I lease from and boy shes loves me for it!
P.S. Pepe's is ok but might as well be in the frozen section of your corporate supermarket compared to these!
