Interestingly enough, many of the comments that have been made (including some of my own) seem to point to words found in the current issue of Outdoor Life (November, page 9), "Words You Don't Want to Hear in Deer Camp".

The point not to be missed in all of this is that, when it comes to being in deer camp, people can very picky about who they want to be there. While some might prefer a liberal crowd, others can be equally conservative. While some guys don't mind women and kids running around, some guys prefer more of an all male escape.
After all, we're often forced to work with people that don't share our attitudes and interests. For most of us, the less we have to tolerate in deer camp, the better.

I see good points and bad points brought up, more bad than good. Having said that, I'm glad I have never had to deal with those issues. I dont lease, I have my own ranches to hunt and I invite my personal freinds that I trust to hunt with me. I dont see where the number of times a person has been married has got anything to do with it. I've been married twice myself, so have many of my running buddies. When we go to hunt its a relaxed atmosphere, not like boot camp!
As for paid hunters, I have never had a problem with the exception of one. He thought he should be able to shoot bigger deer than management bucks for the same price. He left with out firing a shot at an animal at my request. He wasnt happy about it, but then neither was I.
I dont mind my freinds bringing their kids, I encourage it! As far as guests go, they are MY guests. If I invite someone, that dont mean they can bring someone with them.
Bartender, bring me anything except brake fluid, cause I don't plan on stopping!

I don't have a problems with rules as long as they are for the betterment of the hunting camp & lease. If eveyone can agree and follow the rules I see no problem.
The only rule I dislike is guest privledges. On our lease we are allowed to bring guest as long as they shoot off our tags. There are 10 of us on 1800 acres and there has never been more then 3-4 of us out there at one time (other then opening weekend). There have been times I am glad I have someone with me because there have been days where it is just my guest and I for 4-5 days. I do it more for comfort reasons knowing that if something were to happen to me I will have someone to help.
**On a side note we take FULL responsibility for our guest and having a guest who acts like a #%#$# can result on you not coming back to the lease, so my guest are all experienced hunters who I know wont make a fool of themselves or me

Why should they get to shoot extra deer for free? Everyone on the lease pays a large amount of money to shoot whatever the landowner says each person is allowed. How does it make sense to say that you can bring whoever and they can shoot whatever they want?

Honestly, I can't imagine getting on a lease with people I don't know. Everyone on every place I've EVER hunted has been a good friend or family and by now, we're all family in a sense. This is exactly why I bought my first ranch. That and the previous landowner I leased from was...well...an idiot supreme. Now I have a lease near Jacksboro with my best friend and we see eye to eye on everything possible. We'll hunt together and with other friends the rest of our life I'm bettin'.

I don't understand your opposition to that rule.
Why should they get to shoot extra deer for free?
Everyone on the lease pays a large amount of money to shoot whatever the landowner says each person is allowed. How does it make sense to say that you can bring whoever and they can shoot whatever they want? I personally don't see anything wrong with taking a guest as long as they shoot off your tags, and the hunter takes full responsibility of their guest. If I want to pay X amount of dollars to shoot 1 deer and my son/wife/friend shoot the rest then I see nothing wrong with that. We actually encourage our members to bring family, kids, etc..., and it's only 1 guest during deer season allowed on the property. I normally don't bring a guest as my father, brother, 3 good friends and I make up most of the members on the lease(10 total), and generally someone is out there. The only time I bring a guest is if i'm going to be out there alone or if we need to shoot off some does (MLD permits). I rather have someone with me incase something were to happen then be out there alone. I personally enjoy taking people out the the lease and watching them enjoy the outdoors as much as I do, but to each there own I guess

I don't have an issue when family members hunt as guests off a member's tag. But I can get a little uneasy being around adult strangers who carry a gun.

Deer camp is a place where men go to avoid conflicts and people who like to create them. And there is nothing that can test a guy's ability to get along with others more than being able to stay married.
That's as far as I will go. not true. i for one have zero tolerance for stupidity, zero patience with people and usually know it all after 10 beers. my wifes put up with it for 22 years, i doubt you could do it for one weekend.

On most leases, ownership or access to a working tractor and implements can definitely get your name placed at the front of the waiting list. I got access to a working tractor with a bucket, brush-hog, and disc..... Any openings for me and a GF????

I can see it wont be long and some guy's will want to see your credit report before they allow you on their lease, come to think of it, that may matter more than how many times you've been married...hmmmm
I hunted on a lease once that had 12 hunters and family, some where ok, but 3 got the rest booted. I will never do that again. Actually my buddy and I where invited to stay by the land owner and we did for 1 more year, but the cost got us by then.

I have been married for two years to my highschool sweet heart. We have been together for ten years though with no domestic violence. IS that long enough to find a deer lease worth while??????? Please help Dan.

Let's keep it positive. What should you say to stay on your lease?

Best 2 rules I've ever seen posted at a deer camp were: Don't do anything you wouldn't do in front of a game warden. Don't do anything you wouldn't do in front of your children.

710. "I've tried marriage three times and it just isn't for me."
Everyone makes bad choices. Heck, both of my sisters are now on their second marriage. But again, if you haven't found a woman who can put up with you after three or four attempts, it's time to start looking in the mirror. What does that have to do with being on a deer lease?? Deer camp is a place where men go to avoid conflicts and people who like to create them. And there is nothing that can test a guy's ability to get along with others more than being able to stay married. That's as far as I will go. Ok... My first wife and I decided to get married because she got pregnant when we were young, and thought it was the right thing to do. It wasnt, so we got divorced. My second wife cheated on me while I was deployed to Iraq. We are not together. If the girl I'm getting married to passes in an auto accident, or choking on a chicken wing, or slips in the shower, that will be 3 marriages, and I wouldnt be allowed on your lease by your rules. How does that define my character? By your statement, staying married test's your ability to get along with others. I dont agree. That test's your ability to get along with ONE person, and in doing so, likely shunning others. Your rules are ludacris sir, and i pray i never have to be on a lease with a lease nazi like yourself.
