Just use a big varmint cage that they cant reach the spinner. we have tons of coons and we don't have to poison them. get a cage made of tough wire and make it as big as the bottom of the barrel or close and they will give up. I tried the grease and it works! but it gets on you when you are working on your feeder. its a mess!!!

Agreed, lonestar1955. I built this one and it cost $000. You can't see it but there is a perch-trap door on the front so I can get to my timer. Mostly made of wire shelving and what was left of an old trap that had been crushed. It happens to be te same size around as the barrel. It works great!

I assure you they can't reach the motor. The bottom of the barrel measures 24" and the cage is the same size. I've only filled the barrel up once and can already tell from previos years that I'm not "loosing" any corn.
