drill a hole every foot at 90 degrees from the other holes. 3/8"(optional size from 5/8" to 3/4")

leave the eye bolt loose and using self lock nut to allow for some swivel in the bolt

glue caps to each side

and here

my pipes have four holes in them and the hogs can empty them in one night. but as stated, you can always add more.

lets talk about the ground anchor. let us know if it works without bending over. my son's 60 lb lab bent his like that one over pulling on it. on the the two feeder pipes i have out now, i am using 3 foot pieces of 1 1/4 inch x 1/8 inch square tubing drove into the ground about 2 1/2 feet or so and the hogs have wiggled the tubing around. i plan on going with T-post for my new pipes and find a way to mount lights off the top of the T-post. maybe a pipe that slides over it with lights mounted to the top.

let us know how it works.

i didn't want to say it would not work because things work better for some than for me sometimes. to bad it didn't work because it would be easier than driving T-posts.

got a couple of ideals but gotta wait on research and development funds.

both designs allow the lights to be removed if you don't plan on hunting for a while by sliding the pipe that has the lights connected to it off the T-post.

the first uses my elusive wildlife feeder light. it come with a dusk to dawn photocell but not a motion detector switch. i have wired in a motion switch to help save on battery usage.

the second design uses 12 volt RV reading lights. example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/12V-RV-BOAT-BRASS-LIGHT-READING-LIGHT-W-BULB-997481-/180254724817 i found some in a old RV being scraped. with the technology of 12 volt LED replacement bulbs, then i could upgrade to brighter and more energy saving bulbs. i have been using white lights on my moonshine feeder light without scaring the hogs when they come on so i don't really have to worry about the color of the lights.

Got one thing I'd definitely add - heavy duty swivel(s). Lacking that they will turn the cable into a knotted mess. I don't think the loose eyebolt will give you near enough spin.

And don't buy into the more holes talk. I use three 5/8ths holes in a 5' length and that's plenty. The object is to keep them there working on it, not to let them empty it fast and leave.

A tough swivel is good, but what I see lacking is enough 'free-spin' to keep the cable or chain un-knotted. Been there, done that... The amount of abuse hogs can dish out to one of those pipes is truly amazing. Try it out and see how she floats... You can always add swivels as needed.

You can bolt up the extra holes, or a good blob of JB Weld will get-er-done.

I defenetly agree with u here brother the swivel is 4"-5" long so I'm just goin to unscrew it till it has jnuff space here

Im also liking (pafee's) idea with the bolt at the end it is more secured that way I think

on my old tubes i used 1000 lb test rope. you figure rope has a lot of swivel. yesterday morning i found that my tube had been thrashed. the 3 foot rope had been twisted so many times that it was about 6 inches long. i put out the tube with the steel cable and heavy duty swivel and will see how it worked today. i might need to add another swivel near the tube but we will see.

thanks Big.Man. even with all the abuse, the tube never broke loose. the bolt ideal is working.

Here is one of my solar powered spotlights mounted on a piece of PVC that will fit on a t-post. I bought the lights at WalMart last year for $50 a pair. With a good charge they run all night and two of them on oposite corner posts of a 16'x16' feeder fence was plenty of light to shoot hogs and coons. They are made out of aluminum, not plastic. WalMart has these same lights this year. The nut & bolt you see in the picture is a stop to keep it at the top of the t-post. They are made by Westinghouse Item #374212-78W.

let us know how it works. i know hogs come in different sizes in different areas of the state. good luck. i did drill the holes a size bigger and added a couple extra holes. the sticky sweet feed was not coming out very easy.

We use a 55 gal barrell. and not too many holes. Must be in a sunny area to keep from molding if it rains. RAIN in Texas!! smile smile smile T post will not hold it, must be a 1 1/2" pipe in the ground.

I'm sure strong enough rings can be found, but not at the big box stores around here so I got an 18" length of chain and a heavy duty quick link rated for 3500 lbs. to wrap around the t-post and attach to the 3/16" wire.

I deployed the new unit Saturday evening, but I left my camera (phone) back at camp and never got a pic. Better-half willing, I'm going to head down there for a day this weekend and promise to take pics - hopefully they will have hit the new feeder by then.

I will say, the chain around t-post idea seemed to work well when we tested it. We will see what the hogs do to it.
