Just made my second hunt with Monte yesterday and just as the first one I left with one big smile. I went out to his Windthorst property and got the green light for hog and yote' blastin'. We arrived at the property around 5pm and the temp on the truck said 115. We easily decided to sit in the truck until dark. Bad decision because at 6:15 we look out and a coyote is standing a hundred yard's from our setup. Monte said they come out just to the right of a big tree and he was exactly right. As soon as the dog got lost we hurried into position's and 15 min's later her come another one but this one was 500yd's down the fence. After a 50yd belly crawl I got steady and bam. She took off running like I missed but then after a cool dancing with the star's routine and a 20mile an hour death roll I had er' on the ground. I walked it off at 415 and the range finder and eye witness said it was 412. Let's go with my range on that one ( sound's better). Had the 25-06 a foot over her back and it hit a little far back but atleast it hit. Once I got the dog out of the field and back in the brush with us, dark fell fast and we lost all light. It was just after dark when we heard one coyote sound off then second's later I heard somethin' I have never heard in 22 year's of hunting. There had to of easily been 60+ sound dog's howling within a couple of hundred yard's of us in 8-10 different pack's.( it was seriously defining). My first hunt with Monte last year was a deer hunt and he told us that a monster buck was coming out within 10 yard's of a certain tree and this hunt he said they are coming out down the fence of a certain tree and after two hunt's and both of them turning out exactly like he said they would I have come to conclude that no guide work's harder than Monte to make sure his hunter's get within' range of what they are hunting. Whether it is one of his free generous hunt's that he is giving away or a guided paid hunt. If he say's that the animal is coming out at a certain time and a certain place you had better be ready cause he does his homework and is dead on the money when he tell's you. We did not get a chance at a hog but it wasn't cause they were not there. The place is over run with hog's we were just not equipped with the proper stuff to hunt them at night. Fine crosshaired scopes and small light's didn't cut it when we tried to find em'. We are goin' to get back when Monte reccommended with the full moon and try again for sure. He told us before we went that it prob wasn't best right now for the hog's. He did say that the hog's are real easy to shoot on a full moon night cause they are black and the field is white. I personally have paid for 4 hog hunt's at 4 different ranches and two of them are def. go back to places and Monte's is the top of the list.Can't wait to get back out there with good light's a full moon and a foxpro.

Were ya'll Yote' or hog hunting? That field is pretty dang long and wide open so getting in range takes some good hunting but Monte put us right on freagin' top of em'. The first dog came out about 100yd's from that tree in the middle but we were by the gate. Then when we set up this one came out way down yonder and took a little stalkin' and a long shot to bring it down. Thank's though guy's it was by far my furthest shot ever. Had quiet a bit of confidence since we went to the range before we went out there.

was using night vision , spot lights you name it.... just wasnt a good night i guess ... we were hunting both...
