I'm new to hunting this year. I have my first ever deer lease and am really looking forward to this hunting season. However, I've been getting quite a few pictures of hogs at my feeder. I'm still getting the same pictures of deer that I've been having around since I put up the feeder, and the hog pictures I have are from times when the deer aren't usually there anyways. Is this something I should be concerned with ruining my deer hunting, or should I be ok come deer season?

To deer hunting and to the forumn. Hogs are a problem, you should try to kill them to keep the population down. They reproduce like rabbits.

Thanks! I do plan on trapping some of them in the fall, but I'm mainly worried about the affect that they'll have on the deer until then. Right now hunting them is is likely to be really tough, if not impossible. I haven't seen them during the day and the only pictures I have of them are from about 11pm to 2am when it's completely dark out.

Where are you located? There are plenty of guys here that will kill them for you. Full moon with a good scope or nightvision makes night hunting not a problem.

Put up a feeder pin and make it large and the deer are more comfertable and dont have to fight the hogs for food..you will see more deer on a regular basis

deer dont like hogs, espically if they have fawns. hogs are like a cancer. you see 5 today....10 tomorrow. You will not rid yourself of them by shooting them. you will have to trap e'm.

you will have to trap e'm. This is exactly what I plan on doing, but I don't want to do it until the fall when I don't HAVE to check the traps every day. According to some hog trappers I've talked to I can get by with every other day during the colder months, but they'll die in a day during the hot months. Put up a feeder pin and make it large and the deer are more comfertable and dont have to fight the hogs for food..you will see more deer on a regular basis I've talked about this too with a friend of mine. Do you think a 35 foot circle pen would work? Unless I move my feeder to another location, that's about all the room I have around it before I run into mesquite trees and thick brush.

Unless I move my feeder to another location, that's about all the room I have around it before I run into mesquite trees and thick brush. Make a circle pen thats about 4 feet tall with a trip lever for a dead fall door. You can set it up somewhere in a field, throw a bunch of corn in it, leave. Next morning go check it. If deer set off the door, they'll just jump over the fence. Hogs on the otherhand will be trapped. Make sure you have a 22 handgun and just walk up and start shooting the hogs in the head. Done this many times. You put enough pressure on the hogs, and they'll leave.

To make a feeder pen truly hog proof and big enough for deer to feel comfortable plan on spending some money. I carry either my 22 LR auto or my 22 mag and just shoot the suckers. The only good pig is a dead one.

They reproduce like rabbits. i agree with Salter4175... you should sit at your stand(before season)with a .22 or another gun and shoot as many as you can. either that or drive around the leas at nite w/ the .22 and thin 'em out...i suggest head or neck shots...can't go wrong with 'em good luck

They're pretty fun to hunt, at first. Then they because a big pain in the butt. You'll need a feeder pen for sure.

We have lots of hogs on our place. The hogs in groups will run off deer, ones and twos, mainly solitary boars dont seem to scare of the deer to much, big or small. We have no feed pens and have one trap on the place which has caught a couple deer but no hogs... go figure.
We have a very seasonal hog population, durring the summer they are all over the place, but come fall they thin out alot and we dont see all that many of them during the winter, not sure if it is the fact that our neighbors dont feed year round or that they start getting shot under feeders more in deer season so they just dont show up, but it is like clockwork, spring ans summer lots of hogs fall and winter they almost disapear sometimes.

You'll need a feeder pen for sure. What size would you suggest? The biggest I could build, in my current location, would be about a 35 foot circle pen.
