I am setting up my 870 to hunt coyote's and hog. putting a dead coyote choke on it and some adjustable rifle sights. they say this choke will hold a dense pattern out to 70yrds which i beleave. killed some coons and skunks last year at 60 yards. any way i want to find a light that i can count to my shotgun do to the fact that i hunt alone most the time. yall have any thoughts?

if you can afford it i would purchase nd3 designator. its beam can be zoomed out to the equivalent of a flash light, and is good up to 200 yards if you ever wanted to mount it on your rifle. they are kinda pricey, but i love mine

East Tx is right, the ND3 would be a great option.
The thing that I like about it, is it mounts to the top of your scope and when you turn it on it will project enough light allowing you to use the optic after dark.

It has a adjustable knob that allows you to have a solid beam or a large circle.

Another great factor is that unlike WHITE light it does not seem to bother coyotes, foxes, or hogs, and illuminates the eyes.

They have some videos on youtube.

If you decide the Laser Genetics is not a option for you, you can also use the Surefire flashlight.

It has enough power and focus to reach out to the distances that your looking at and is extremely tough.

The problem with regular ND3s, however, is that they crap out in the cold.

http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/944883/1
http://www.predatormastersforums.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1754043

So now they offer the Subzero. It costs more than the original ND3.

For most shotgunning, you won't need the range of a ND3.

i started with my xlr 250 kill light on my scope but didn't like the way it lite up the inside of my stand when i turned it on. it now mounts to my magazine tube with a white light on the other side and bipod on the bottom. they also changed it so you can adjust the brightness of the light.

It's alot cheaper than the ND3. I'm looking at getting one for my bow and gun.

stupidest question ever asked coming up- when you use a light like an ND3 on your gun is it bright enough for a normal rifle scope to be used?

I have several BOWLITEs ( white, green & red) for hunting and bow fishing and you can't beat them. Really, I am tough on any equipment and they keep up with my abuse. They come with two lithium batteries and I have yet to kill one. Also comes with a dual charger that you can use on the wall plug or cigarette lighter. I LOVE, LOVE mine and so does my hunting partner. Thier site is www.thebowlite.com

Oh and different mounts for anything. One that is a double scope ring 1", and another that wraps around with a velcro type mount, and for the bow, they attach in the stabilizer bar hole. has dual modes in low and bright and two kinds of switches. A pressure switch and one that you just click on and it stays till you click it off. Good lite and good people at that company. I'd post a picture of the set up if I knew how.
Average output: Red 140 lumens
Green 280 lumens
white 320+ lumens
Ave run time: 90 minutes continuous and 10-12 hours intermitent
black or camo 5.09inches long 6 oz for weight mounted w/ battery.

Here are some pics of the Bowlite on a gun. The company is a Texas company and the owner Steve is real helpful.

One of my hog hunters had this light. He let me try it out with his rifle and I was very impressed with it looking thru the scope.

I use an ND3 with my SCAR-17s and I can usually see up to 150-200 yards through my scope on a moonless night.

the light sqiggy was talkin about is the xlr250. I have the green . had it on my 17hmr with a cheap walmart tasco 3 x 9 x 40 sqiggy and I both played with it and were seein 307 yards on a no moon cloudy night. the next night I put the light on my 270 with a Nikon scope was seein farther than my range finder would read. the cross hairs on both scopes were plain to see like using them in normal daylight conditions .for measuring the distance I went back in the daylight stood on my foot prints and shot the object with the rangefinder in full light of day.
just my .02 cents don’t get the on/off switch. get the hold it on switch. the click of the on/off is crazy loud. the light didn’t spook rabbits squirrels coons or birds.didnt use it on a hog. will next spring when I get to go back down to sqiggy"s place. aint much hogs up here in Mo. YET.

ment to add the company has mounts for just about anything or anyway you can think of to mount the light.

I personally don't like the ND3's at all. They do not replace a good light, IMHO. I have used both sizes in the field. They are also too expensive for what you end up with, again, IMHO. I use the EWT XLR-250 in red. It comes with two mounts that will work fine on a shotgun as well as a rifle. FYI-They are also a Texas company. I like dealing with one of their dealers, Randy White, at CRITR-GITR.COM (830)660-2841 in Seguin. The prices are the same and his customer service is excellent.

X2 - save your money and go with XLR 250 with green or red LED as Bob notes. I routinely have kills out to 155-160 yards on varmints.
