I wasn't thinking about custom guns when I started the post, but now that y'all have brought it up I might put the $1200 towards a Christensen Carbon One Extreme in 270.

A few years ago I bought a Remington SPS .270 for around $450 to build a custom rifle from the action. Got it sighted in and it shot way to good to not keep the barrel. I mean really great for a factory rifle, stock, trigger and barrel. So in time I added a H/S Precision stock for another $300 and then dropped in a Jewell Trigger for $225 more. Still some day going to get a new barrel just have not decided which one to get since it still shoots great groups. Got a Ziess Conquest 6.5x20 on it that I paid just over $800 when I bought the rifle. If it were me, I would invest in a custom build to get what you want for you money.
