Their both good. I prefer the 700 because thats the action the USMC used when they designed the m40 (one of the first true "sniper rifles"). I also don't like the accutrigger.

If you are thinking of an SPS tactical you will want to upgrade the trigger anyway. Good luck, you can't go wrong either way. Those saying that one is great and one sucks are just being fanboys.

As a matter of fact I am, you say that like its impossible. Between a super accurate remington and what I have been taught throughout the years its not that hard. I can watch people split golf balls at 600 yds so why is it a stretch to think that someone could shoot that well at 100-200 yds.

Cool. I plan on buying new since I want the rifle to be broken in properly then I intend on giving it a crio treatment unless someone knows of a good enough reason to crio the barrel before I break it in.

I like the model 700s.

I've heard about it but never personally experienced it. I have several 700 actions, and I've never had an accidental discharge with any of them..even after adjusting or changing out the triggers.

Never had a 700 misfire, and have owned a boat load of em!

It sounds like the issue isn't a problem any more so I'm not concerned about it. I think I'll get a 700 after all. Thanks for ya'lls opinions.

There is one I will disagree with you on. How many fine cusotm rifles are on the 98 Mauser action or pre 64 Winchester 70 to name a couple? A lot of Semi-Custom guys will only touch Remingtom 700 actions because that is what they know best. I never said a Savage is not ugly, hey my go to rifle by many peoples standard is an ugly rifle a Remington 788. The part I highlighted in the above post "Any of the fine gunsmith wont tough anything but a Remington or custom action" is not true IMO. There are some fine custom rifles being built on such actions as the Paul Mauser designed 98 action, Springfield 1903 and Winchester pre 64 model 70 actions, which are not Remingtons or custom. That is they are not custom until a crastsman makes them custom which is part o what we pay for when getting a custom rifle built for us.

I also assumed that the person ment to type "touch" not "tough". By the time a good gunsmith finishes with a Remington action it is a lot different than when they started with it, otherwise we would be being ripped off with our custom custom work, would we not?

Savage has been around a long time and it's been known for cheap/inexpensive guns for a long time. Sure they make some good rifles, but I wouldn't consider them in the same class as Remington. I'd probably consider them more in the class of Mossberg, Howa, Rossi etc. But that's just my opinion.

The reason Savage might be ugly is because all there research goes into barrels. That's what makes the gum accurate, and that's why they're known so well for being accurate out of the box. If you think it's ugly, buy a $200 stock and bam, you have a pretty gun now that shoots better than a 700.
