I'm in the market for a new bolt gun and have been thinking about buying a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308

I hear a few die hard Savage fans promoting the Savage over the 700 and was wanting to hear ya'lls arguments for ya'lls opinions and the 700's fans arguments.

I'm sure, in the end, it will come down to personal preference but ya'lls opinions would be appreciated anyway.

I am Remington fan never had one issue with them, actions are worth $350 no matter what, ever seen a custom built based on savage action? No. That is enough for me. I don't like the accutrigger rather have Remington trigger worked. And besides all that "life is to short to hunt with an ugly arse rifle". Savage has no appeal they shoot good but no better than Remington.

Everyone on here will say the 700 but my reason for shooting Savage is I have 5 Savage rifles and all shoot well under sub MOA, plus if never had an issue with Savage, so if there's no problem then I don't see a reason to switch. Plus lower prices too

Can't go wrong with either of them but my personal preference is Savage.

After looking at yalls', and others', posts and opinions, it seems like the Savage is a better value out of the box but if you want to do more to the gun in terms of accurizing, then the 700 is the way to go.

I'm a savage man for the price. I have two of them and they are both awesome guns.

Kellyash did bring out a good point, more customization possible with the 700. Check out Midway to see what's available aftermarket for both rifles. I'm gonna do a Savage build soon and am going to buy a stock and barrel from Midway

...less customization required with the Savage. If you go to savageshooters.com, you will be able to connect with people who can make a Savage rifle play tennis, if that's what you want.

Remington

The only reason savage is so cool on here is because they know the rifle sucks more,so they have to all flock together you will feel better about your ugly rifle.

Any of the fine gunsmith wont tough anything but a Remington or custom action

I would get the reminton tactical 308 in a heartbeat. It shoots unbelievable and is by far my most accurate gun. Honest one jagged hole groups using factory made ammo. No trying to work up a load etc crap

Savage is what it is a cheap rifle, that shoots ok, if money is tight and it is all u can afford then buy the ugly arse savage, if not and you can afford a little more buy the Remington. The only reason people buy savage is they are cheap

I don't really agree with some of the posts about " cheap and shooting ok" I have no problems shooting my savage at the 1000 yard range. And it is custom. Built on a savage long action. They are correct about the aftermarket parts being so readily available for the 700's though. Just my opinion and I have shot both just personal preference

most custom rifles are built on a remmy 700 action. Military uses them as well. Mine shoots cloverleafs at 200 easily. All the bad things that savage fans say about remington; I made up my own mind to get the vs sf II in 22-250. I will NOT buy a savage after owning the remington, there is no reason too.

I don't understand all the Savage hate presented here. I have both Remingtons and Savages and they are all good shooters. I can take a cheap Savage and add a aftermarket stock for less than the cost of some Remingtons. They both make fine rifles and it's a matter of personal preference for me. To each his own.

Savage is the most accurate rifle out of the box, so take it for what its worth. And I don't think they're ugly, so its whatever.

X2, why spend more when you can spend less and get a better shooting rifle.

As you can see it's all a matter of opinion. Nobody has really presented a reason why Savage over Remington or vice versa, just that what they shoot is better

I own both, the savages I own are older pre-accutrigger models though. My savages shoot as good as my remmys.

If you go with Savage, you'll have to pull the trigger to shoot it, that's not always the case with Remington.

Nice shootin', Tex. You must be pretty much one-holing at 100 easily.

If you look around, you'll find that Savage rifles are alive and well in F-class competition, both as factory stock (f(M) class) and as the basis for a rebarrelled or highly customized rig.

One of my best friends has a Savage with the AccuTrigger in .270 WSM with a 26" fluted stainless heavy barrel in a black synthetic stock. That rifle is one of the most accurate I've ever fired. I personally like the Remingtons though.

I don't really care about ugly. I have a Benelli R1 in .300 WinMag that's about as ugly as a pregnant crackhead but it serves it purpose. I can afford either gun plus any tacticool mods I want but, obviously, I don't want to spend a fortune if I don't have to. I'm interested in having a rifle that I would be able shoot deer at 150 yards and still be competitive at a 1000 meter competition.

I would be interested to hear about the issues with the Remington and it's firing when you don't want it to.
