In another topic I'd commented about using live pigeons for dawg training and how I hobble the birds wings. Had enough PMs asking for the method that I had Carol take a pic of me hobbling a pigeon for the pups in this mornings session. I take the three dawgs out every morning around 6:30 a.m., the coolest time of the day here. 4 out of 5 mornings grandson Jay sleeps in so I have the dawgs to myself. Today was an exception, Jay and Carol decided to get up in time to go with me. The first two images show how I restrict a pigeons full flight with a rubber band. If we do 4 or less retrieves per bird they will usually survive a session. Click on image

Where you getting yours? Talk to Judd. I was able to find someone catching feral pigeons over here in Fort Worth. I've got us 10 for training on Sunday. If you need some, I can probably help you out the next time the guy catches some more. $4/bird.

I now have two sources, they run between $4-$5 each depending on the type. The first birds I bought were $3 but that was for his entire inventory of 37.

well i didnt say when i saw it lol bet he has lot of birds by now Oh, I forgot to mention, I know where there's is a Sinclair gas station that had both a pack of cigarettes and a gallon of regular gas for the same price ... $.25 ... that's right ... twenty-five cents a pack and twenty-five cents a gallon. Honest, for real. Of course that was in 1959, the year I graduated from high school.

cappy, aren't you in the pigeon biz now? Well, we did in fact complete some renovations of the pigeon motel ... Figured we'll be keeping training birds through early November so might as well fix it up for them. Sheet metal on all 4 sides (except door) at the bottom to keep critters out. Shade cloth on S side and roof, and 18 individual nesting partitions with hay.
