hey guys standard barrels and PH barrels will interchage with one another.. the PH barrels will only work on an encore that has the heavy barrel fore end.. But other than that, the moutning lugs are identical... So if there's an Encore caliber you want, you can put it on your PH frame.. Just be mindful of the forearm. Not true about the forend needing to be of a heavy barrel. I bought the Encore w/ a ml barrel and a .25-06 standard barrel awhile ago. I bought the .270 Win in a Pro Hunter barrel last January and installed it using the same forend. The ml barrel takes a different forend though, but it came w/ the barrel I bought. I also have always wanted an Encore and VERY happy I did. I love to shoot and reload and the idea that you can have a different caliber in munites w/ ya. I can't think of anything negative, except the standard barrels are too lightweight for me. I love the Pro Hunter barrels, but they are a little on the heavy side if you plan on spot and stalk hunting. This is where the standard barrel is really handy though. It's like a small toy gun for me, but I got some long arms. I do alot of barrel switching and never had any issues swapping and them nor remaining dead-on. Even the ml is the same.

I like the idea of being able to have a longer barrel for faster velocity and still have a manageable length rifle.

I just picked up my encore last week. It is a sweet handling rifle. I can't wait to get out and shoot it!

When I traded for it it came with a 243 and a 280 barrel but I'm trading the 280 for a 25-06 barrel

Judd, The biggest plus to the Encore is the overal length of the gun. I have a 26in barrel on my 25-06 encore and its still shorter then any bolt 25-06 with a 24 barrel. As far as a death ray... thats more of who is behind it I built mine for under 600 that with a custom barrel. Found the reciever on the sight and had a barrel built... The spiral Fluting and Creokote add another $150 to the $600

Had my Encore for 3 years and LOVE it. Started with .270, now have it in .223, and 7-mag, as well.
Accurate, short, light, versatile, and getting a second shot in the chamber comes naturally in no time. There are some beautiful stocks out there to be had, too. And as some have pointed out, adding a new caliber to your collection can be done for under $250 including shotgun and muzzleloader.
C'mon, Man...everybody's doin' it!-)
Good luck with your selection & have fun.

Thanks guys...BOBO that is a bad arse rig. Nice 'lope too.
Now y'all have about talked me out of the bolt completely. Like I said in the other post higher up...I know no one who has owned an Encore that didn't rave about it. To the point where everyone I know that has bought one still has it.

Tarleton is an A&M school so you don't have much room to talk about Aggies considering it says A&M on your degree.

Does any one make a soft sided barrel case? I am making my own but would like to have a nice one. Just ordered a new TC Encore Pro Hunter today in 30-06 and cant wait to use it!

I have mine all sitting against each other. Ran out of room awhile ago. Although, it never stops me from buying more!! I think anyone would be happy w/ the regular Encore like mine is. You can use the Pro-Hunter barrels w/o any problems. You just don't have the fancy stuff in the stock and forearm. Is it needed? IMO.....no. Now got to get the son his 7mm-08. I just ordered a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14X40AO. I forgot how much they were almost 11yrs ago when I bought one almost the same, but a Vari-X III 4.5-14X40AO. I guess all of the upgrades they had to change the model name also. I'm courios to see if they are identical or if the lens and gases make that much of a difference or not.

I asked for, and got one of those cases for X-mas. It's extremely well made, and I love the size of the extra pocket. I have yet to put an extra barrel in it. But it hold gobs of other gear. Plus, i love the shoulder strap on it. It's even on the side of the case WHERE IT OUGHT TO BE. I would recommend this case to any Encore owner.
