Thinking about buying a rifle and just started looking around and seeing what my options are. I was looking at an Encore and Icon then noticed they have a rifle that appears more budget minded with a lot of the same features of the other two...named a Venture. They say they test shoot all their rifles and they have to be a sub 1" MOA to be released.

Anyone own one or have shot one? Looks like they added some new calibers this year and it has me thinking that I could almost buy 2 of these for close to what 1 of the Encore/Icon costs.

For the Encore question...do any of you that own one come from a bolt? Do you feel the single shot breakover design is more inconvenient than the bolt or no big deal?

Thanks.

I like my enocre. It is my 2nd favorite rifle and I dont feel it more inconvenient than a bolt gun but I canreload quicker with my bolts.

learn something new everyday and you will have never wasted a day.

I've been a bolt guy for too many years. Bought my first Encore 5yrs ago. I'd rather shoot it than any of my bolts. I can reload it pretty fast, but I'm not out there to fire as fast as I can. I'm more for precission shooting aka DRT. I have a stock shell holder on it just incase I need another round quickly though.

I have .50 cal ml, .25-06 and .270 Win barrels for it. I have the Pro Hunter barrel in the .270 Win and it IS my go to barrel of choice now. Yes, it is MUCH heavier than the other barrels, but it is well balanced and is a freakin' tack driver and the muzzle jump is minimal compared to the .25-06 sporter barrel.

I never looked into the Venture, but I'm sure it is a well built rifle since it is made by T/C.

Thinking of the next caliber I want for the Encore frame. Hmmm

Heck yes, there is a picture here of a forum member with a TC in 6.8 SPC if memory serves me correctly..he had just gotten a fairly good sized hog with it. Good looking rifle and pretty handy too, what with being able to switch barrels fairly easily (I'm told). I wonder if a longer barrel length would be less of a total length issue because of the lack of a long bolt action receiver. Definitely something I may have to look into.

Here ya go. This is my buddies Encore in 6.8 and the pig I shot. If they made a 6.8 for the Pro Hunter, I would have a new barrel for my Pro Hunter too.

To answer your question about the barrel length of the Pro Hunter is simple. I have the 28" Pro Hunter barrel on my Encore and it is the same length or slightly shorter than my Browning A-bolt. So, eliminating the action is definately more benefical w/ having a longer barrel. My Ithaca .270 Win is approx 4" longer than the Pro Hunter barrel on my Encore. The Encore gets almost 400fps higher velocity than the Ithaca w/ a 24" barrel. The terminal damage from the higher velocity is much greater. It is night and day between the 2 rifles and I'm using the exact same reloads in both.

THAT'S THE ONE!! Fantastic pic, now you got me interested in that TC for sure!! So, they make a 6.8 for the Encore, and not for the Pro Hunter?

Thats exactly what I was wondering about T.P. was velocity gain and overall rifle length. Sounds like a great combo!

This is all I could find. Under the Pro Hunter, it does not list the 6.8
But under the Encore it lists it with a blue barrel.

Hmmm...well, now I may have to find one in a 7mm-08 Rem. Wonder if they have that in a 28". The barrel looks fairly heavy in that pic, is that a heavy barrel profile?

Yes, it is a heavy non fluted barrel. Has recoil like a 223 or less believe it or not. So it pretty much has no recoil.

Sorry for the hi-jack Judd, just thought I would chime in.

No big deal guys...lawd knows I have jacked a few smile

One thing that I confirmed is I haven't ever heard anyone say a negative thing about the Encore and most guys who have one love them...or so it seems.

I've noticed the same thing..and I've also managed to ignore them all these years. Most probably a big mistake on my part, looking at them now.

I have the pro hunter with .243 and 25-06 barrels. I LOVE THIS GUN! It shoots all my reloads sub moa and is easy to carry in the field. Barrels run around 200 to 250 each and you can put Encore or Pro Hunter barrels on it. Im sure the Venture is great, but I bought this one so I could get multiple calibers out of one action. You can learn to reload pretty quick with it as well.

hey guys standard barrels and PH barrels will interchage with one another.. the PH barrels will only work on an encore that has the heavy barrel fore end.. But other than that, the moutning lugs are identical... So if there's an Encore caliber you want, you can put it on your PH frame.. Just be mindful of the forearm.

Awesome info, DT. I'm just starting to learn about TC rifles now, anyone else have any good info to share on them?

I love my new Encore. Have not noticed a big "change" other than the need to be prepared for the second shot. But funny enough, I haven't had to make a second shot on a critter with it yet. One instance this year tho I'll relate. I had a long horned spike come out and decided to shoot him. I did, and the shot boogered a nice 8 out of the woods. He stepped out as I was reloading, and I shot him to. Both of the guys who heard the shot said theirs wouldn't have been any closer together than mine were with a single shot rifle. So all I can say about the follow-up naysayers, is a little practice will take care of that.

Now I won't be getting rid of my bolt guns anytime soon. But oddly enough, they haven't been in the woods since I got my nice light, short, sweet shooting Encore.

There is a website I can't link to here that deals almost exclusively with single shot rifles where the Encore and Contender guys are thick as flies. Also many great deals to be had on stocks and extra barrels. A little searching will turn up the old "greybeard" fellas that frequent that site.

So far all I have is encore pistol barrels, 223 and 308 like them both and they both shoot good, I'll have a rifle barrel in 308 soon.

Yeah, it was the week before Thanksgiving. My son took it with his cell phone so it's a bit grainy, but it still makes me smile every time I look at it...
