Anyone own the Chevy 3.0 DURAMAX? If so can you give me your thoughts on it? Thinking about buying one but would like to here from some owners first.

14K miles and 10 months into a 2023 TrailBoss, I'm the guy that can't justify a 3/4 ton but needs something with a little a$$ to pull around 6K every now and then. This truck has done exactly what I've wanted, it pulls better than my Tundra did with way better mileage. Most of the 14K is to my S Tx lease, at 80-85 mph mine gets 23-24, towing say a load of 6K it gets about 14, sweet spot is 60 mph and it'll get 27/28. It uses very little DEF unless you're towing. No issues so far, all I've done is level it and put one size up on tires.
I did alot of homework before buying and know enough people with one that I was able to make an educated decision. I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in any 3.0 online forums or FB groups, they'll make it sound like everyone of these trucks breaks down. Don't really think there's anything I'd do different at this time, gets the thumbs up from me. Hit me up if you need more specifics on anything.

I've got a GMC AT4 with the 3.0 Duramax. Loving it so far. Zero issues and my mileage is about what Southtexas36 is getting. Towing is usually my 21 foot Ranger bass boat and other than dropping the mileage a bit, it's pretty much unnoticeable back there.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I have 56,000 on mine. Love the fuel mileage and no issues with pulling 22' foot boat or 28' camper.

Have 56K on my 2020 Silverado with the baby DMax. 19.9 MPH lifetime average. A LOT of that was pulling my bass boat. Had a company truck for several years and my personal never left the driveway without the boat attached. Love the torque and it tows like a beast. The only issue I had was a bearing shelled out in the transmission oil pump at about 51K. Took out the flex plate and torque converter. Not really a diesel issue, as the service manager that took care of it told me they have been seeing the same thing with the gas motors as well. When I bought my truck in 2020, I lived in Corpus Christi. Gas and diesel were the same price then. Made it a no-brainer until politics screwed that up.

we are considering a Tahoe or Suburban for pulling our wake boat and travel trailer ... I'm seriously considering the 3.0 diesel. This will be what my wife and I travel in during retirement and need room for up to 4 grandkids some of the time. Her current Traverse has worked very well over the years but not enough for the travel trailer (tail wagging the dog), sort distances with the wake boat are okay but is pushing the weight limit to the max.
I've been looking at the area dealerships for either (Tahoe or Suburban) but they are few and far between loaded out with options and color we want. but I'm not in any rush.

I would have bought a baby D-max if I occasionally didn’t need full 3/4 ton capabilities.
So went with the 6.6 Dmax. Great power, dismal fuel mileage. It is easy on the DEF.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

All I have to add is that the RV we have has a 3.5 V6 twin turbo diesel, and there’s plenty of torque.

2022 here, 32k. Zero issues with all the attributes posted above. Love it, would buy another in a heartbeat. I was in the wholesale fuel/lube business for 25 years. FWIW, in today's age of ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, I run Hot Shot EDT fuel additive approx every other tank of fuel. I believe in the lubricity and +cetane benefits. YMMV.

My son has a '20 or '21 model with just over 100k miles. He has had several issues but I don't think they were related to the 3.0 diesel. When he was driving a lot of interstate miles he was getting 28+ mpg at the speed limit + . He is very satisfied with his.

FIL has one with about 60k it’s in the shop right now not real sure for what but I do know his 2.5 mile commute is hard on the emission systems. Uncle has one in a suburban, no complaints they both love them.

My Dad finally dropped his 2020 Tahoe Dmax with around 70k mi. Glad he kept his 09’ Tundra. Tahoe was in the shop far too often for sensor and emission issues. $75k POS that road smooth and got great fuel mileage when things were going good.

My dad just traded in a 2021 that had 156,000 miles on it. Early on it started leaking oil. I don’t remember where, rear main maybe, but it was expensive had it not been under warranty. And the reason the company traded it in was at 150,000 a code came on to replace the timing belt and the stealership charges $5800 to change it.

So how much would you charge to pull the transmission on a half ton diesel to access and replace the timing belt? Don't forget the engine must be disassembled too.
To the OP, might wanna check the other on-going 3.0 Duramax topic for a longer view.
Pass the gravy.

No one likes working on them so we all hope there are no long term issues. The transmission is shared with other engines and not special to the 3.0L internally.

To the OP, might wanna check the other on-going 3.0 Duramax topic for a longer view. My question is why do they keep building stuff like that? I need to pull the intake and clean on my 3.0 ecodiesel, dealer wanted $5,000. Independent shop quoted $2600.

The belts are the exact same part number, the LM2 was spec'ed at 150K or 15 years, the LZ0 is spec'ed at 200K or 15 years. Back in the beginning Barta (lead engineer on the baby Max diesels) said that the 150K was conservative and they were looking to increase that time based on performance and wear characteristics as they became available, but the reality is that this part of the 2 engines is identical with no changes whatsoever in the rear of the engine, so it stands to reason that even the LM2's can likely go 200K without issues, but since the LM2 is now to be discontinued I doubt they ever update the spec on it. It's an awesome rig....enjoy it.

Seems like Chevrolet dealers are all trying to get rid of there inventory , because they have a lot , a lot of rebates , a lot of Chevrolet crew cabs with 5.3 motor , i've had 11 , 5.3 All ran good . I don't sell Chevy's , I'm trying the diesel now , i like it a lot , it is nice inside , and i just buy LT's

We are not selling as many 1500's as we normally do. I think it's because everyone bought one 2021-2022 whether they needed to or not. 2500/3500s and SUVs are still selling well.
Pass the gravy.

I have a GMC and Chevy dealership close to my house that I drive by at least twice a day. Done business with both of them so I keep a mental note on their inventory. The 1500’s are sitting. The 2500 and 3500 inventory moving, more so on the GM lot than the Chevy lot. But, it’s taking a week or two to move the 2500’s than a few days. In January/Feb. a 3/4 ton would be on the lot for less than 48 hours

^^ All the stocked colors sure look dull and boring to me, as opposed to before Covid. White, Black and Flat Grey are the big sellers. Ford of Boerne got a shipment of Super Duty's in a few weeks ago and most of them are still there. But those sticker prices are horrendous and I don't know how much they are comming off. F-250 Lariat Tremor (same as my 2021) is retailing at $98k

I had a '21 Denali with the 3.0. Loved the truck, ridiculous MPG, like 37. About a dozen times I would press the start button and it would sit and crank over but would never start, I would just have to let it time out. Talking to service and reading up on it, appears there was an issue with bent timing tabs, to fix they would have to pull the cab from the chassis. I traded it in for the EcoDiesel. Didnt like the Eco as much as the Duramax, but the truck was light years better. Just got my son a gasser '24 Sierra and it is a very nice, very improved truck over my '21

Motor wise, for sure! My best in my Eco was 25 or so. In 21 the interior in the GM trucks was super dated, they rode like [censored], that was where the Ram was better. In the late 22-current GM models the interior is super nice, but even so I would give it up to Ram still as far as comfort and looks.

I think run circles around is a pretty good exaggeration. I’d rather my ecodiesel was the duramax, I do think it bests the ecodiesel I. Near every way, but it’s pretty marginally.

Interest likely improved enough that with the value of the trade and the improved new inventory, the buyer got a new truck without cost other than fees, etc. to do the paperwork.
Pass the gravy.

Ok , how much can you pull with 3.0 ? Depends on other equipment. Should be in the owner's manual that was downloaded to the truck.
Pass the gravy.

Ok , how much can you pull with 3.0 ? Depending on year model its 8900# or 9800# for the 2024.

Ok , how much can you pull with 3.0 ? Just have your expectations in-line with what it is, it is not comparable to late model 3/4 ton + pickups. If your looking for that kind of power you will be disappointed.

If you have driven a 2500 for 20 years and it's worn...you'd be surprised how much better a 1500 drives while still doing as much work. Hey, I don't EVER want ANY diesel because of all the expense and complexity. I know what it costs to fix them and they're getting worse not better because of the EPA.
Pass the gravy.

He said late model, not a 20 year old truck.
Comparing a 20 year old anything to a modern equivalent is gonna be night and day difference

Comparing a 20 year old anything to a modern equivalent is gonna be night and day difference Yeah and a late model 2500 is way more than needed for almost everyone that buys them and is generally $90K with a diesel. Plain stupid.
Pass the gravy.

The EPA is definitely trying to get rid of diesels.
