Anyone own the Chevy 3.0 DURAMAX?
If so can you give me your thoughts on it?
Thinking about buying one but would like to here from some owners first.

14K miles and 10 months into a 2023 TrailBoss, I'm the guy that can't justify a 3/4 ton but needs something with a little a$$ to pull around 6K every now and then. This truck has done exactly what I've wanted, it pulls better than my Tundra did with way better mileage. Most of the 14K is to my S Tx lease, at 80-85 mph mine gets 23-24, towing say a load of 6K it gets about 14, sweet spot is 60 mph and it'll get 27/28. It uses very little DEF unless you're towing. No issues so far, all I've done is level it and put one size up on tires.

I did alot of homework before buying and know enough people with one that I was able to make an educated decision. I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in any 3.0 online forums or FB groups, they'll make it sound like everyone of these trucks breaks down. Don't really think there's anything I'd do different at this time, gets the thumbs up from me. Hit me up if you need more specifics on anything.

I've got a GMC AT4 with the 3.0 Duramax. Loving it so far. Zero issues and my mileage is about what Southtexas36 is getting. Towing is usually my 21 foot Ranger bass boat and other than dropping the mileage a bit, it's pretty much unnoticeable back there.

I have 56,000 on mine. Love the fuel mileage and no issues with pulling 22' foot boat or 28' camper.

Have 56K on my 2020 Silverado with the baby DMax. 19.9 MPH lifetime average. A LOT of that was pulling my bass boat. Had a company truck for several years and my personal never left the driveway without the boat attached. Love the torque and it tows like a beast. The only issue I had was a bearing shelled out in the transmission oil pump at about 51K. Took out the flex plate and torque converter. Not really a diesel issue, as the service manager that took care of it told me they have been seeing the same thing with the gas motors as well. When I bought my truck in 2020, I lived in Corpus Christi. Gas and diesel were the same price then. Made it a no-brainer until politics screwed that up.

we are considering a Tahoe or Suburban for pulling our wake boat and travel trailer ... I'm seriously considering the 3.0 diesel. This will be what my wife and I travel in during retirement and need room for up to 4 grandkids some of the time. Her current Traverse has worked very well over the years but not enough for the travel trailer (tail wagging the dog), sort distances with the wake boat are okay but is pushing the weight limit to the max.

I've been looking at the area dealerships for either (Tahoe or Suburban) but they are few and far between loaded out with options and color we want. but I'm not in any rush.

I would have bought a baby D-max if I occasionally didn’t need full 3/4 ton capabilities.

So went with the 6.6 Dmax. Great power, dismal fuel mileage. It is easy on the DEF.

All I have to add is that the RV we have has a 3.5 V6 twin turbo diesel, and there’s plenty of torque.

I was in the wholesale fuel/lube business for 25 years. FWIW, in today's age of ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, I run Hot Shot EDT fuel additive approx every other tank of fuel. I believe in the lubricity and +cetane benefits. YMMV.

My son has a '20 or '21 model with just over 100k miles. He has had several issues but I don't think they were related to the 3.0 diesel. When he was driving a lot of interstate miles he was getting 28+ mpg at the speed limit + . He is very satisfied with his.

FIL has one with about 60k it’s in the shop right now not real sure for what but I do know his 2.5 mile commute is hard on the emission systems. Uncle has one in a suburban, no complaints they both love them.

My Dad finally dropped his 2020 Tahoe Dmax with around 70k mi. Glad he kept his 09’ Tundra. Tahoe was in the shop far too often for sensor and emission issues. $75k POS that road smooth and got great fuel mileage when things were going good.

My dad just traded in a 2021 that had 156,000 miles on it. Early on it started leaking oil. I don’t remember where, rear main maybe, but it was expensive had it not been under warranty. And the reason the company traded it in was at 150,000 a code came on to replace the timing belt and the stealership charges $5800 to change it.

So how much would you charge to pull the transmission on a half ton diesel to access and replace the timing belt? Don't forget the engine must be disassembled too.

To the OP, might wanna check the other on-going 3.0 Duramax topic for a longer view.

Pass the gravy.

Is a 3.0 a good motor and transmission ?

So far I'd say so. No one likes working on them so we all hope there are no long term issues. The transmission is shared with other engines and not special to the 3.0L internally.

Retired. We have others. I'll see him today at the golf course. I haven't been there since Wednesday so I have no idea what's on the lot.
