Remember when every guy in school had a rifle rack in the back window of their pick up? Most where I grew up had 2, a rifle and a shotgun....yet no one was shot and no negligent discharges. The joys of growing up in the Texas Panhandle in the 60s and 70s.

Remember back when.......

I grew up in TN in the late 80’s we did the same thing. Never even thought twice about it

When I was in high school I had that same gun rack in my truck. Remi 760 in 30-06 rode with me for years. Learned the hard way that you needed to flip directions every few months or the stock will bleach out on one side.

That was back when you could take a guy behind the school whip azz or get azz whipped and the next day you both went on with life. Today the they come back and kill several. Glad I lived when I did (70)

Late 70’s / early 80’s …. Same for me. Everyone had firearms. In “shop” we mounted/zeroed scopes.

Me and a buddy ran a trap line before class most days late fall to early spring. I had an ax handle that had a 16 penny nail that I used to dispatch coons without wasting a .22 shell. I built that in shop class too

When I was a teenager living in the suburbs of New Orleans, I would tuck my single shot 12-gauge under my arm and take local public transit to hunt rabbits in the woods at the end of the line. The bus driver would always ask if it was unloaded before he let me board. It was a whole different world back then.

We went rabbit hunting with the principal after school. He had a great pair of beagles.

I grew up in Mesquite graduating in the late eighties and I had two buddies that bought rifles from a shop teacher we built cross bows in wood shop. I as in typing class one day and my type writer kept stopping on me due to the cord. I pulled the plug out of the socket, pulled out my pocket knife, unscrewed the plug, skinned it back and put it all back together. I looked up and the teacher was standing there looking at me and didn’t say a thing. No body was hurt with the rifles or cross bows and it was well known. None of that would happen today.

yep, many times during dove season, we would walk out to our vehicles, get our shotguns and walk back thru the school and dove hunt in the field behind the school. We had several teachers and principal join us on occasion

I kept guns in the trunk of my car in high school. First new truck I had was a 79 GMC Heavy Half and it had a gun rack in it . I really don’t remember a gun ever being in it though. I took good care of them and a gun rack would have rubbed the blueing off.
