What is the legality of using ducks you killed (legally) while hunting for dog training?
I'd like to go throw ducks for my dog at the local park, but the GWs frequent the pond there to ticket mom's and dad's taking their kids fishing without a license, I dont want to get some kind of a ticket for having the ducks.
Anyone have a clue?

Some people will fillet the breast and then tape up the carcass. I use pen raised birds that have their dew claws clipped.

You cannot use wild birds you've killed for training unless they've been cleaned for human consumption. Then you can use the carcass as mentioned above by Robby. I would look more in the direction off ion raised birds as well if you know a GW is frequenting the area.

I save the carcass on the little ducks after breasting them out. I fill the cavity with foam and then tape them shut. It works like a million bucks.

Thanks for the info guys.
Just curious how anyone could know if a bird was killed in the wild or if it grew up on a farm.
Any ideas?

If I'm not mistaken, farm raised have their "dew claw" removed. Not really sure what the thing is called.

sounds like you could just clip their dew claw and go with it, never done it before just a thought

I clip the wings and salt dry them for a few days. Store them in a freezer bag. Then, just tape them to a bumper with electrical tape.

Angie Could you expound on this? Do you then freeze the carcass and use for training, then refreeze? or do you salt/dryout the whole carcass? Prolly sounds like a dumb question, but all I can visualize would be the duck's brains rotting and coming out his mouth... and then trying to explain the smell to the wife -z
