Has anyone tried coyote hunting with a 17HMR? Just wondering how affective it would be, and how far out you could reach one?

My 13yo Grandson uses one when I take him. He's nailed one at 131yds, his farthest to date. Got the 17 in Sept. for his Birthday, and has been out 4 times thus far with me. Not sure of the Kill range factor on a Yote as yet, my "guess" would be around 200 yds. He can group, on average, under 3" @ 200 yds using his CCI 17HMR rounds. Not much help I know, but something anyway.

It works, but shot placement is crucial.

Sounds good, thanks for the feedback. I got it mostly for prairie dog hunting. Just wondering how it would work on yotes

It is a great little round, but loses steam quickly after about 150 yards.

If you are confident with the gun then go for it. Ive killed many with the 17hmr but ive also had a few run off after getting hit with it. The wind will play a big factor on that little bullet at longer distances.
