A hunting show came on the Sportsman channel this morning where 3 men were going to Montana on an expedition to hunt "trophy-calaber prairie dogs". rofl What is a trophy-calaber prarie dog? Is a 3 1/2 year old prarie dog a trophy? If he is not a trophy do you give him a couple more years before you shoot him? Do you look for bags under his eyes to tell if he is a mature prarie dog? I am not sure if they were hunting a high-fence prarie dog ranch or not.
Has anyone mounted a trophy-calaber prarie dog, I would like to see a picture of it. lol35

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I guess the jokes on you because those things can be a tough hunt and are deadly foes! Do your homework next time before you put down those who are willing to risk life and limb for your enjoyment!

I can honestly say I've never killed a prairie dog, but I have had to get rid of a few problem ground squirrels, and have discovered that a "trophy" rodent can be judged by the size of his male parts, those mature males can sure enough grow a pair.

I'd love to get a trophy class prairie dog but, don't you need a really good, high dollar spotting scope to see the size of those at 400 yards? And another thing, if it's winter time, do you have to allow for cold weather shrinkage? eek2 Sounds like a tough hunt to me. I may just have to stick to hunting hogs.

Wow. That is sweet. Ours are usually turned inside out. They would take some serious taxidermy skills.

Got bored in the deer stand after 5 hrs. of nothing coming out .... except 4 squirrels under my feeder. I thought, " dinner time, last hunt of the week, .223 bull barrel that I haven't broken in yet, 115 yards to the feeder, What the hell !! " Center punched that critter, made him go about 8 ft. in the air, and right over the property fence into the next field. I had heard of Flying Squirrels, but had never seen one before. Now that is my favorite gun.

Nice P-dog.....Mounting up a p-dog is no different than someone mounting a deer that was taken over a deer feeder does.
