A while back on here this was posted and someone suggested to put up a target and shoot it then adjust your scope and you can get dead on in two shots. Was it shoot the target, put the scope on bullseye then adjust to the hole or was it shoot put it on the hole and adjust back to the bullseye?

Thanks,

Rick

Aim at the bullseye, shoot, put the scope back on the bullseye then adjust the crosshairs to the bullet hole. Fire another round at the bullseye and you should be right on assuming you kept the rifle very still while adjusting the scope to the bullet hole.

I remember the thread, but don't remember which way it went either. I believe it was DCS who gave that 2 shot method.

what he said ^^^^^^ it helps if you have someone to adjust the x hairs for you.

IMO you should be using more than 2 shots to sight your gun in. Shoot a group of 3, find center. Adjust. Fire another group of 3, center should be around bullseye. Adjust and repeat until you are comfortable.

You should be confident in where your gun is shooting, I don't think you can do that in ONE shot. Maybe you can confirm your gun is on in one shot, but not sight it.

First and foremost, set your rifle in a solid rest. Fire one shot at a 25 yard target. Don't move the rifle, just adjust the crosshairs to the bullet hole. Move out to 100 yards and make the final adjustments to your preferred zero.

Two reasons for starting at 25 yds - you can see the bullet hole & adjust easily and the bullet trajectory is very close at 25 and 100 yards.

Well, i guess I should have added all the specifics, I do have a bore sighter, it is close but not anywhere near where I want to be. We use a Lead Sled, and my .270 was shooting high and to the left, I will shoot probably 10 shots for my confidence, but do not want to be adjusting after the 2nd or 3rd shot, I agree not to shoot two rounds through a new scope and go put it on an animal, I just want my gun 100% accurate, before shooting groups with out the lead sled Foe My shoulder wont hurt....Thanks

While your at it you might want to read this thread is case it changes your mind on how high you need to shoot at 100yrds.

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

In a perfect world, the whole two shot zero thing might work. I wouldn't expect it to very often though. Lots of variables out of your control there...

I shoot two or three, find the center of that group and adjust, repeat as needed.

The only way I see the other metod working is if you can guarantee that the rifle doesn't move at all....and I haven't seen a vise in the real world that can do that.

That is why I said in my post you put the crosshairs back on the bullseye before you adjust the crosshairs to the bullet hole.
It works.

It works in theory, I'll give you that. But you can't guarantee that with you pulling the trigger, wind direction and speed, that you can put 2 bullets through the same hole. Shoot 3, find the center, adjust, repeat til confident...

no worries, we already had it on paper at 100 yards and brought it in pretty close, I am an inch high at 100 yards and shot a pretty tight group. The cover up on the top left is where it started, then i pulled it in and covered up and adjusted it to the right, I shot a three shot group and was within an inch

and as far as MPBR, I am ok with an inch high at 100 yards, it does make me think twice about my 7 mag, We stoped on it at just a hair low, I may shoot it a few more times and adjust it to an inch high or so, but I dont have oppritunity for more than about 200 yards so I think I'm good
