Coming home from work today, saw two different bucks chasing does. First was in a field on 281 between Burnet and Marble falls, 3.5 yr old 8 running a doe. Second was a 5.5 year old 130" class deer on the river ranch in between liberty hill and bertram on 29. He had his toungue out waggin, chasing hard after a doe, right on the fence by the road.

Cold weather must have them going, this is a couple of weeks earlier than normal.

I can vouch for that in georgetown. Saw a low fence buck (on my side) fighting a high fence buck on the other side. Was worried/hoping they might get stuck and I would have to slip an arrow in him.

I also watched another try and chase of twins from the mama doe.

You're killing me man! 2 weeks before gun season and I'm laid up with gout so can't even go scouting/filming them. Oh well, the ranch got 5 inches of rain a couple nights ago. I would probably just get stuck. wink

last year they started running on opening weekend in San Saba, but not hard, thats usually mid to late november. this is the first i have seen in 20 years of hunting that they are actually on hot does this early. Everyone i talk to is seeing the same thing. must be something in the water this year...

Yep, I've been hunting Lampasas Co for 17 years. They are almost always rutting (or chasing heavily) by opening weekend. I saw some chasing at the ranch last weekend, and with the opening day so late this year, there's no telling what it's going to be like. At least the moon will be waning. Good luck!

Saw a mature buck in Austin chasing a doe. First time I've seen this deer. Non-typical, kickers, and a 3rd main beam!!! Keeping the camera by the door to try and get a picture of him.

Lease is in south Mason county.

Worked on some stands at the lease this weekend. When we were putting a new roof support on one a young 6 point walked by us (3 guys) about 30 yards away. Never looked at us. We didn't see any does nearby, but he certainly acted like he was looking for something.

woke up yesterday morning and had a young fork chasing a doe hard by our cabin.

Dude - I feel your pain. Gout is some bad arse stuff! I have one word for you - "Allopurinol." One of these pills daily, and you'll never have a gout flare-up again. It's a magic pill. Pretty cheap, too. Even without insurance you can get a 30 day supply for about $15.

I've hunted San Saba for years and I've never heard of rutting activity this early. Wow! Usually doesn't happen till Thanksgiving timeframe. I can't wait to get down there!! up

As many does as we have on our place outside of Junction, they will be chasing on the 4th of July.
