What time do you usually get into your stand on opening day? I have the advantage of waking up in my house and walking out about 30 yards to my stands. Just curious.

Well, what I mean by that, sir, is... if you was to put me and this here sniper rifle anywhere up to and including one mile of Adolf Hitler with a clear line of sight, sir... pack your bags, fellas, war's over. Amen.--SPR[image]

Opening day I like to get there about 45 minutes before daybreak, and the earlier the better in order to let your area settle down.

I hate walking up to the stand and hear deer running off.

Also the first morning just listen to all the noise if you have hunters on neighboring ranches, as you'll hear vehicles starting up and driving on the roads, car doors and tailgates slamming, and people talking, and radios off in the distance.

Makes you wonder why anyone ever sees any deer with all the racket they make on opening weekend!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Usually just 15 min before daylight for me. Bowhunting is different, I usually try to get in my stand 30 minutes or so early.

On opening morn I'm usually in the stand a hour before day break just because I'm pumped and don't really know what time first light is... after that I'm there about 30 min before day light.

I ride my wheeler to the stand so I give it at least 45 minutes before daylight.

in the mornings, I hunt a ground blind on the side of a hill. At the bottom of the hill is a creek, my food plot, and a feeder. I park on top of the hill and ease down the hill and into my box blind about 45 minutes or so before daylight. The shadows start moving about 15 minutes before daylight.

I fight off the urge to get our earlier than say 30-45 minutes.

i also like to go an hour before if it's just me going....if not, i go when the family goes.

I also watch the neighboring hills for headlights....listen to trucks and 4wheelers. One of our neighbors rides the fence line to his stand on his wheeler. I totally hate that....but he goes so late i can see deer running towards me. Later in the year, he won't ride the fence til 15 minutes after sun-up....and leaves his blind an hour later. I see LOTS of deer headed my way when he does that.

I am going to get there around 5am this season...at least on opening morning. I want to be the first one to my stand and since it is big enough for me to lie down in I plan on taking me a little nap before the feeders go off. If not I will just listen to the ruckus going on in the distance as guys get to their stands around daylight.
