645 is nice on a perfect morning, but if you get any clouds, rain, gloom and you don't throw enough out you could be empty quickly depending on your herd. I like 7 or so.

Why 4pm? Most the bucks on my place don't move around until closer to dark/or during dark. I thought it was like that everywhere except for the rut.

Some deer wait for the clatter noise of a feeder and then come right in. Some want to get there before the big bucks kick them out at night. To me its about trying to get them in early with enough daylight to see whats on their heads clearly. If you can get the does to come in early then its only a matter of time that the big boys will be following closely behind. At 4pm it only gives you 2 hours to hunt. You'll be surprised at what you will see during the mid-day. A lot of guys go back to camp way too early in the morning.

I'm slinging corn at 6:30 in the morning and 4:30 in the evening for about 10 seconds. I put up a new motor and sling plate and it sits real close to the funnel. I'm not slinging that much corn at 10 seconds but the deer and turkeys are loving it.

I keep my timers set year around to their 'fall back' time change for less confusion. So right now it's 6:30 and 4:30. As the days keep getting shorter I will change them to 6:45 and 4:15 or even 4:00.

But, opening week especially, I try to stay in my blind until at least 1:00 if not all day. I've shot more and bigger bucks between 11:00 and 1:00 during the rut than at any other time.

My timers are already set for daylight savings time. 6:15 am and 4:15 pm. Looking at the chart for November, that is a rough average of 30 minutes before sunrise and 1 hour, 15 minutes before sundown.

I have to go closer to dark in the evening than 4 because if I don't the dang quail and dove will eat all of it, unless the hawks are keeping them away. It was cool watching them trying to catch the dove. Same with in the morning. I had mine set for a minor little 2 second feeding at around 8 after the major one at 6:45 and the birds would flock to the mesquite trees and hang out from about 7:45 until the feeder went off.

Picture removed.

Yep, I was gonna say, sunrise/sunset times vary across this big state by at least 30minutes.

One year, We had to set our evening times later one year to get the turkeys to roost before we slung corn.

Even in south texas we were feeding at 5. I guess in conjunction with broadcasting we've never needed to feed as early.

We're in daylight savings time (DST) now. It ends this coming Saturday night. Standard (Fall back) time is the normal time and what I always keep my feeders set to (throwing @ 6:30 and 4:30 now, 6:45 and 4:15 later in the season, ect).

Last weekend I was sitting in one of the other guy's stands and a buck walked in at 5:30 (DST). Unfortunately his feeder didn't throw until 6:00 so the buck kept on going and didn't come back, before dark anyway. Feeding earlier is better, imo.

But like I said, broadcast some corn and you'll prevent that buck from walking off.

Just an FYI on the feeder times. I hunted this past weekend, and with the days getting shorter and shorter, you may want to adjust your morning times. I had mine set at 7:15 a.m. and just bumped them up to 7:30 a.m. Sunrise is around 7:48-7:50 a.m., which puts shooting light around 7:20 a.m. or so.

I personally like my morning feeders to go off in the dark so the deer come in in a relaxed setting. But if you set yours off at 6:30 a.m. right now that is WAY too early IMO (unless your clock is not on Daylight Savings Time). Now, we will fall back an hour this weekend, but unless you're there to change your timer clock, it doesn't matter.

I'm set for standard time right now, not daylight savings.
