Has anyone encountered this before? I bought a Marlin new XS7 bolt action and took it to get bore sighted and sighted in yesterday and the guy doing the bore sight asked if the mounts were all tight. I said yes, why?!? He said the scope had a little left angle from the rifle. The mounting holes on the rifle are drilled wrong. They aren't true to the rifle barrel. After shooting it yesterday it didn't matter how many clicks I went the rifle shot to the right. Should I send the rifle back to Marlin with this or take it to a gunsmith? Any help would be great!

Take it back where you purchased it and see if they will not send it back to Marlin or replace it.

Definitely since it's new. There are somethings we could do with it, but since it's new take it back, Marlin will make it right.

or try the leupold mounts with the rear windage. this could square it up for you, if its not to extreme.
if you are pressed for time - way to close to opening rifle season to ship your gun off, unless you have a backup.

What kind of base and rings are you using?
Burris makes Signature rings with plastic inserts that you can get different sizes to offset the differences. The standard ones might be forgiving enough to straighten the line out.

Could it be the mount or rings that are off instead ?.

I'd suggest first.....Send it back to Marlin and get a new one. This would also let them know they need to tighten the belt on the QC dept too.
Second....use the Burris Sig Zee rings with offset inserts, or Luepold rear windage adjustable base and rings. Either solution will cure what ails ya.

im no gunsmith but that sounds abnormal and let the manufacturer deal with it and maybe someone else wont have to go through that mess. quality control fault.
good luck

Thanks for all of the advice. I think I'm gonna send it back to Marlin. I've checked the mounts and rings and they are all squared away. The only thing I can think of is the mount holes. Thanks again for everything. I'll let you know the outcome.

I and many other people have had the same issue with scope base mounting holes being drilled off center of the bore. Mine was on a Marlin 917V .17HMR. I replace the whole gun with a Savage 93R17 BTVS and haven't looked back.
