How come so many people wait till AFTER bow season opens to buy new bows?

Does noone agree with me in thinking they are lackin a little practice with a new and unfamiliar piece of equipment?

Im not gonna let some joker with an unshot out of the box bow come hunt any of my places!
Anyone else?
NOW, I do know some of you buy them and practice heavily in the allotted time before a hunt! Good!

ac

heck I guess I jsut feel like I put so much time and practice in that others hould too....

Saw a guy break his bow, barrow someone's backup.. sight it in and win.

I think if you shoot year round, not much of a problem.. but if not probley going to be a problem.

I will agree to dis-agree with you.

Seasoned Bow veteran knows how to shoot and what to expect. Nope I do not agree with you there.

New hunter that just got into this Bow thing a few weeks back.
Yes I would agree with you there.

Rule of thumb do not expect people to think they way you do or anybody else for that matter. I learned this being a boss for a big company. I use to get really mad when employees would make bad bone headed mistakes instead of doing it the way I would have done it. If they were to think the same way I do then we would all be equals.

I bought my bow in January of last year, because they were clearancing their older bows. I could not afford 600 or higher price for a bow.

But I think a true hunter would never hunt without being proficient on his/her "harvester" of choice. To be otherwise is foolish and unethical.

I have been shooting my Mathews Outback for three years now. It did take me 2 shooting sessions to get fully comfortable moving from an older Reflex to a brand new mathews. Opening weekend I picked up my buddy's PSE X-force and shot at a target and busted two nocks I was grouping them so tight. I think it is the shooter, not the bow, when dealing with an experienced shooter with comparable equipment.

My next bow I will probably buy right as season ends to try to get a deal from the shop...

Typically I would agree, but I also think that it depends on the skill level as well.

I just bought a new bow Tuesday after not bow hunting in over 20 years. Once I spent about 30 mins on the range it all came back to me.

If you know how to shoot then it doesn't matter.

All depends on the shooter. I have no problem buying a bow today , tuning it, sighting it in and then hunting with it later in the day. Some folks have no business shunting with the bow they have had a year or more cause they dont put the time and effort in it that needs to be done to be an ethical bowhunter.

Yep. If I could afford a new bow tomorrow I would hunt with it Saturday. Never would think twice to DL a deer.

I just bought me a new bow. It will be here in 3 weeks. Plenty of time to harvest some game between now and then with my old one. I would have got it early, but I didn't have the money. Can't wait! clap
I'm getting a Mission Eliminator 2.

If it is in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing I don't see a problem with it. If it is the ones that have never shot one or lacking in experience than I would worry about it

my FIL worked at academy. he said u wouldnt believe the people that would come in and buy a feeder, corn, stands, rifles, or bows the day before season opened.

on that note, i bought a new bow on ebay 2 weeks before season opened. got it and it had a problem. i went in and bought a brand new one 3 days before season opened. got it sighted in and shot it about 30-40 times. opening day no deer to shoot so i shot a squirrel and coon in da face at 20 yds just to see if i could.

most guys think they need to shoot and shoot and shoot. every day, 100 times. this is good practice for a rookie. but u only get one shot at an animal usually. i take my bow out every now and then and only shoot one arrow. if its on, then its on.

dunno. the sight was way off to the left to be sighted in, like over an inch from center. took it to an archery shop and they said that it might have been bent. they were gonna trade it in for me but i didnt know the original owners name and where he bought it. so i bought a new one.

My buddy and I shot everyday after work for three months getting ready for his elk hunt. We shot so much that we started aiming for each others arrows and hitting them. Then on the third day of the elk hunt he decided to buy a Mathews bow from another hunter in camp. What a mistake. He shot the bow in camp a few times and called it good. The next day we had a large bull elk at twenty yards and he shot right over the bulls back. He said he got mixed up on his sight pins. But we both agreed that if he would have stuck with the bow that he practiced with and has shot for the past seven years we would have been packing a bull elk out that day.
