Need to brag a little...took my one year old male Vizsla, Sparky, to Amarillo for a hunt test this weekend and he qualified on both days - so now he's half way there towards his Junior Hunter certification.

Way to go Sparky!

What happens at a pointing dog hunt test?

Hey congrats Sparky!

Chet, read more about hunt tests here.

http://www.akc.org/events/hunting_tests/pointing_breeds/

There are 3 levels, Junior, Senior, Master with each level requiring more and more finishing work. Juniors basically need to show a desire to hunt by working the proper cover, and finding a bird or 2. Senior and master will start adding in steadiness, honoring, retrieving, etc.

I would agree with you, but then I would be wrong too.

Nice meeting you too Dave, wish we could have talked a little more. I'm a complete newby compared to your expertise!

That's great Brian ! Congrats ! Is that the closest place for a pointing hunt test ? I'd sure like to run Caroline in something like that.

Doug

Thanks Doug. It was fun for us. There's supposed to be one in Decatur the first weekend of Nov. I've tried to contact the hunt manager, but no reponse yet.

You ought to come up for the walking field trial in December!

I send in entries all the time before I ever receive a premium. The AKC Events search page will list the address and phone number of the event secretary, and list the judges and cost of each stake. I have a generic field event form in microsoft word that I use to type my information in and send it along with a check to the event secretary. If you would like a copy of the form I use, email me at drscott71@hotmail.com

Thanks Dave - email sent. I'll see about the field trial in December, but I'm hoping to be busy chasing some pheasants that month!
