So I lack a lease this year and am looking for public land. So I read the public land stickie and noticed this place isnt that far from me to make a weekend trip. Figured I'd grab a friend from work to split gas/lodging. Plus have fun.

I would love some input. I know bow season is up and running, I lack a bow, and the mule deer season there for rifle will be hard to get at since I will be in colorado elk hunting. So I might be able to get my hand on a bow from a friend or a cross bow from my neighbor.

So I'm wanting to get and idea from folks that have hunted there before, or atleast hunt in the area. thanks in advance.

Good luck man it has a great deer population but the only problem is that the hunters outnumber the deer about 15 to 1. I am serious no matter which part of the areas you hunt and no matter what time or days you go and how far you walk to be secluded, I promise you will have 50 people within a couple of hundred yards from you.People do shoot alot of nice deer but it isnt a 1 or 2 day deal they spot for weeks and pattern the deer and then setup to get one.I would recomend the Plumb Creek area for archery season and get on a good covered high point and glass, glass, and glass some more. When you find deer stalk in on them, this is your best bet. I hope this helps.

thanks Deerslayer, looks like me and my neighbor will head up for opening weekend of rifle season up there. Might try to head out super early the friday before so we can set up the camper and maybe glass a bit that evening. It's the only chance I have to go for Mulies this year so might as well try.

just be carefull, there will thousand hunters on opening day i promise. just get in earky and glass after you find a good spot and be there way befoe daylight. You can pick up a hunting area map at the marina,or some of the camping areas and the ranger station is on the road to the marina, sometimes they have a few helpfull tips. You do have to wear safety orange while hunting over there. I thunk like a total of 458 sguare inches or basically a blaze orange vest and a hat and your good, dont be caught without it and I promise you will see orange everywhere you look at first light.
