I noticed some of you were looking for retrievers so I thought I would post this up in case you had a more versatile dog in mind.

Dr. Kraig Stemme is the breeder of my pup and now a good friend and dog breeding mentor. He is selling one of his female pups. She is the sister of mine and I will tell you only thing limited about my pup’s capabilities is ME! Here's his info.

Here is a picture of the parents and a pic of my pup, the brother, is in my signature with a duck I might add. I hunted with him a number of times, all his dogs hunt and I couldn’t ask for a better breeder. His advice as a Veterinarian and a trainer has been incredibly helpful along the way and I'm confident he would do the same for any buyer of his pups.

When I was looking for a DD, I spoke to Dr Stemme for several hours. I have also met him and trained with him on several occasions. He definately will be there after the sale.

What kind of dog is that? I have seen one around Matador but didn't know it was any kind of retriever.

They are Verein Deutsch Drahthaars. They are excellent retrievers and have to pass a retrieving test among others in order to breed. The breeding is very strict, which was great for a idiot like me, it greatly improves your chances of getting a healthy dog that will hunt.

Like I said, my dog comes from the same parents and he took to water like a fish. I'm amazed at how great they swim.

I will say one thing after seeing all the awesome pictures of Izzy (stinkbelly's dog) when/if I ever get a hunting dog I will be hard pressed not to try and find one.

They really do it all and from his pic's do it all VERY well. Plus they are great looking dogs in my opinion...I really like the ticking that some of them have on the site you have listed, kind of GSP like.

Those are some really good looking dogs. How big do they get looks to be about the same as a lab am i wrong?

My male is about 65lbs. The females are considerably smaller than that but their determination is about as big as it gets. They don't like to give up on hunts.

I have hunted mine at the Matador WMA a couple of times. Possibly you saw us.

Izzy is 55 pounds. 55# is the average female size.

How old is the pup?

My male is right at 80lbs and not overweight at all.

Is a deutsch drahthaar to a GWP as a Deutsch Kurzhaar is to a GSP?

yes

NO! There is a huge difference. It is true that they came from the same place but the Deutsch Drahthaar has gone through years of strict breeding where as the GWP has had no restrictions.

In addition to significant differences in breed standard, the Wirehair has been bred without regulation or restriction since the late 1950’s, but especially without the performance testing that proves the ability of the Drahthaar. After years of unrestricted breeding and no versatile performance standards the German Wirehaired Pointer has evolved into a distinctly separate breed.

I'll put it this way. As a novice and a person who lost his last dog to problems I believe were breed I didn't want a puppy mill dog and was concerned about which breeders to trust. This breed takes a lot of those problems out of the equation. You won't find a puppy mill dog here.

unless i misunderstood, your saying the DD is to a GWP as a DK is to a GSP. Meaning they are not the same but different versions of each other. Then the answer would be yes .Not a DD IS A GWP. Then the answer is no. They are just called different things lol

I disagree. Espcially since quite a few GSPs have DK in their bloodline and to a lesser extint some GWP having DD in their line. The focus with the DD/DK breeders may be little different than the breeders of the GWP/GSP so I think of the differences in terms of "lines" instead of separate breeds. To say that GWP has had to restrictions is fuzzy because for one that is a really broad statement. They have not all gotten together and and one goal but there are breeders that have their dogs proven by way of field trails, NAVHDA. To say there is a huge difference is exaggerating

You will never have a Deutsch Drahthaar owner say they have a GWP, but you will have GWP owner say they have a Deutsch Drahthaar. A DD can be registered as a GWP, but a GWP can NOT be registered as a DD.

Take people for instance. Is an African-American and an African(living in Africa) the same thing? It depends which one you ask. Yes they came from the same stock, but one has been breeding without check for a hundred years. One is a mut compared to the other.

Good looking pup!

I have a friend that I hunt with that has a Drat. That is an incredible dog. I have presonally witnessed him run down 2 different deer and catch them! Not wounded deer either. He retrieves, points, and blood trails. He has spent countless hours training that dog. My next hunting dog is probably going to be a Drat.

I know a breeder in Lake Jackson. Is your friends name Kevin?
