I am looking for a small deer lease in the Texas Panhandle area. I am looking for something like 100-300 acres for 2 guys that work alot and do not get much time to hunt. Would pay reasonable price.If you guys have or know of anything please let me know. Thanks in advance.

You can put me in the same club. I found stuff but just couldnt see paying $700 to $800 for an unmanaged lease

Well I know of alot of great leases but I am recenlty laid off from the oil and gas industry and can't afford 1500.00-2000.00 a hunter.If I could get a group together in this area, I could get us on a lease for a reasonable price. But most of what I have looked at is in the $12.000.00 to $15.000.00 price range but it is also for like 10,000 plus acres and I can no way pay that but get 10-15 hunters and divide he cost and it could be affordable.Well best of luck to you guys and where did you find an $800 lease at?

yall must not of ever hunted east texas before. i dont here of many leases around here more than 800

No up in the Panhandle especially anything along the North fork or Salt Fork of the Red River the prices are outrageous.I mean to get on like a 320 acre lease it would cost 2 guys $1750.00 per person on average.It really sucks because we have thousands and thousands of acres of great hunting property that either no one knows who owns it or it is totally restricted to absolutely no hunting and the ranchers and farmers do nothing with it at all. I mean no crops and no cattle it just sets year after year.I have contacted the apprasial disrtict and alot is tied up in family estate lawsuits so who knows?

No doubt I would lease 2 or 3 spots for that price regardless of management.

Well yall prolly see alot more deer than we do. your lucky to fill half your tags i only know a couple people that limit out every now and then. paying 800 on an unmanaged lease is a little steep around here

I've hunted both Central Texas and East Texas. Big difference in price and numbers of deer, but I'm still having trouble finding an East Texas lease under $800...

I live in East Texas.. so I'd much prefer one here with less deer that I can visit more often than the one I was on for the past 8 years in Schleicher county.. 7 hr drive is a bit much.

won't say which one, but skimmed it the other day and saw one that borders a pretty nice place that has been MLD3 for years now.

You guys are right about the prices up here in the Panhandle. They are high and there are some places that will go unleased this year due to the prices. I manage and lease and sublease several properties and this year, the situation is far different than the last five years. I still have a couple properties that are available; I don't own them, therefore I don't control the price. I can say that the deer up here are generally larger in antler and body size than most of the rest state. If a guy just wants to "fill his tags" or "fill the freezer", there are much cheaper places to hunt than the Panhandle. But the Panhandle does offer a real opportunity to kill a serious trophy. I don't know that that justifies the prices that the landowners are getting though. If you guys get to the point that you are willing to pay $1500.00 per person for a Panhandle lease, I may be able to hook you up.

I hunted Southeast TX all my life up until a few years ago. We were on 4400 acres that my grandfather and his buddies had been on since the early 60's. We had 3 generations of the same families hunting there. About 30 guys total. Some years you might not see a deer, but that place with that group of guys was exactly what you thought about when you thought about "Deer Camp".

The land was sold to the teacher's union retirement something or another from New York back in 2002 and they tripled the lease. Some bozo up in New York read what South Texas deer leases were going for on a per acre basis and jacked the rate up. No one could explain to him that Southeast Texas was quite different.

I now hunt land that we own with the wife's family, and we have excellent hunting and a great management plan. Even with the great hunting on a place we own, I'd give my left nut to be able to still be with that same group of guys at "the hunting club".

No actually I fill all of my tags every year. I shoot my does, my whitetail buck and my mule deer buck and sometimes get some MLD permits and shoot more. We have a huge population of deer up here in the Panhandle and some big ones at that.The other problem we have is that most ranchers have 4 or 5 thousand acres up to 12 thousand and will not split it up, you lease it all or nothing.

The problem I have is that I am looking for something that myself and a buddy can hunt on together and take our children. I am blessed to have a few great places to hunt for free but absolutely no guest or family and it kind of sucks.

man its sad to here that. i hate how landowners make guidelines like that i meani have 6 nephews and i will take one with me out to family land and they really dont care about killing stuff they just like being out there but if they do kill something its just the icing on the cake and ecspecially if there your kids they should be allowed to come with you just my opinion

I agree my step-son is 8 and not ready to shoot a deer yet.I told him about 10 but I love teaching him all I can about wildlife,hunting,fishing,management,preservation, and most of all respect for the land and especially it's owners. I also have to feel like the arsehole when I go and have to leave him at home, not only does it break his heart but mine as well. So I am just looking for something small and within my budget because I was recently laid off due to the economy. Well I guess if it is meant to be then the good Lord will bless me with his answer.

I'd ask the landowner about that one. Everywhere I've been the no guests meant no other hunters. I believe it was always permissable to have another person (like a child) along in the stand provided they were just a spectator and not a hunter (1 gun only).

The guest hunters is another deal all together. So many guys bring a guest and treat it as extra deer. Any deer the guest kills should be counted out of the members limit.

BUT, we see the results of allowing guest hunters at a ranch some family members own out near Rocksprings. Each owner is allowed the 4 whitetail allowed by TPWD as well as 2 axis bucks and 2 axis does. With 1100 acres and 12 owners, they set the limits with the expectation that they won't have every hunter limit out every year. As it is, most of the owners kill 2 or 3 deer, while 2 of the guys that always have a guest on the stand limit out each year because they have multiple people hunting hard. I see the handwriting on the wall pretty soon that either limits are going to be reduced or guests will only be allowed for just a short window of time.

No it is me and me only he won't even allow family to hunt anymore because of the bringing guest issue.I ask to take my kids out to fill feeders and scout a little opening weekend of Bow season and his reply was " I thought we had already discussed this issue if you want to continue to hunt then abide by my rules or find some place else.don't get me wrong the guy is great but I mean come on my kid just wants to be a part of something fun and exciting.So I am seeking a lease of my own where it is allowable.

Alot of the landowners i guess dont understand that feeling i guess that people like us get from seeing the youth in the outdoors. i remember those weekends when i wasn't allowed to go to the lease and i felt absolutely miserable sitting at home. but at the same time i get where the landowner is coming from because some people would feel like if i can bring my kid i can bring a buddy and those kind of people ruin it for the rest of us
