so I"m at lunch watching a hunting show, it happens to be sponsered by our friends over at the TTHA. these guys are shooting 180 - 200 inch deer, I pulled up the web site and it says they are a game preserve....hunts cost between 12k-20k....so lets say low end with travel and all is 12k for a 170 inch deer....

now lets say avg joe texan hunting man is.....anual income 50k, lease price of $2000 yr per gun....what are avg joe texans odds of ever shotting a 170 inch deer on an avg joe lease????

I'd say the odds are low....you can find the number.

so it appears to me that the TTHA promotes to the high income game reserve hunter.....so why do so many average joe texas hunting men join the TTHA?????? just so they can have the sticker on the back cab of the truck?????

please explain confused2

I only subscribe to one magazine... and have been told I don't have a choice in the matter and as luck would have it...it is not TTH.

ive noticed that most people dont read there mag. most people just want that stupid sticker on the back of there truck. ive got a buddy with a huge one on his back wondow and has never read the mag, prolly wouldnt even know where to find one.

if you ask me that is the perfect example of a "tool".

i will admit i read ttha but it does seem like the majority of the ads are for some type of high dollar operation. tons of breeders in there to. dont get me wrong they do have some good stories in there from time to time but not much for the average joe as you said.

TTHA also featured a deer that was shot low fence on 800 acres in Bosque county that went 202 this month, and then what about the guy in Carbon that shot the 200 low fence deer also.

But as far as 170 plus deer... Wes you lived in an area that produces some of the best deer in the country. How many deer do you think are shot there that go over 170??? I know of four just last year with one over 200 and another fastely approaching it. As far as median income for the two counties... probley not over 50k

But as far as TTHA Mag I think they have pushed more toward low fence deer now then HF deer with enphasis on kids, women and military.

Kind of like reading Playboy, looking at something you don't have or cannot get.

And I agree with you B-swit,most trucks I see with the window decal bigger than the back window of a 1986 chevy 2wd, air shocks pumped to capacity, 36" gumbo monster mudders on the back, BFG comp radials on the front, snaggletoothed driver with his 18 year old preggo wife sitting next him--->yeah TOOL.

And it is the Texas "TROPHY" Hunter's Magazine... it's not the Texas NIce Deer Hunter's Magazine

Read it years ago and didnt buy into all of the hype, mainly due to the money. Back then it was all high fence deer. I am a low fence hunter and pretty much guess I always will be. Nothing wrong with either, after all its a choice we all make.

As far as the image of the truck with the kid driving it, that is spot on. I have even seen them with deer in the back of the truck and the rack on the sticker is bigger than the deer in the back of the truck.

I think the mag stinks. Unless you are looking to buy a 16,000 pound protein feeder than your in luck cause there is an advertisement for one on every other page.

well....

Im an Aggie. We have a Texas A&M Trophy Hunters chapter. So my sticker is even cooler....its maroon! rofl

all jokes aside, What magazine is better for us? The only things i look forward to reading is the stories mentioned about BIG bucks on low fences or the 4 stories submitted by average joes every month.

About people we are referring to as TOOLs, my brother in law fits. He is from Michigan. on the back glass of his "real truck" 2wd F150 is a Michigan sticker....and a TTHA bigger than the Michigan sticker. TOOL! this is the same guy that bought a grill guard so he could hit deer and not hurt his truck....grill guard, not full replacement bumper. The first deer he hit was followed by laughter and pride....until he realized he lost a headlight and fog light.

Yep that is their elitist mentality. They got called on it and made a retraction, you can't tell me the TTHA did not think it was not going to stir up a chit storm.

You present your question in a very well said manner. I hate that magazine and everything they stand for.

They need more articles and A LOT less advertisements. I know you have to have ads to pay for it, but come on they are ridiculous. I will not renew.

I like the mag and think they have done a lot for Texas hunting and Game management...

Say what you want about Trophy deer and prices all you want...

end result is people understand now more then ever that the quality of game is dependent on hunters.
